Well im new to the site and ive done a search but got a feeling i did the wrong critera as i did not find what i wanted so ive created a topic.

At the moment i cant get insurance on a turbo powered mini so...

The question is,

Is it worth building the block ready to take a turbo or will it be better to do this block as a NA engine and get another to do the turbo.

It is getting a rebore to 1293 and everything rebuild so it will be a fresh engine, me and Mini Sprocket was talking about this, the plan was to fit turbo pistons but have a skimmed head to get the CR up to a decent standard for a NA engine then in the future i can just put the turbo head and turbo on and be on my way, the gearbox has already been built to a "Supposedly" high standard, a trackday spec but i dont remember whats included, ill get this later.

Do you think it will be a good idea or just build it for a NA car so that when i get the turbo if anything goes wrong ill have an engine as a backup as this car will be used from day to day.

What are your opinions? Also any advice on pistons?

Cheers

It depends how long it is going to be before you can afford to insure the turbo.

Anything much more than 2 years and you may as well just build a NA engine.

Well the car will have been used every day to and from work. Same with the turbo car, will use that every day but have a backup engine just in case.

Also as for the quote, a standard 1275 was £80 more than my 998, i live in a bad area some how, im paying £500 for a stage 1 998, im classed 2 with 2 years no claims. 1500 agreed val, 7000 limitage milage.

Turbo would have been way too high and i wasnt going to ask after they said an extra 80 for the 1275.

£80 extra from a 998 to a 1275 is bloody reasonable in my opinion.

You are assuming. And as we all know, assumption is the mother of all fuck ups.

If I were you, I'd ring back and get another quote for a turbo engine, that way you have all the information to hand, and can weigh up the situation properly, rather than working on assumptions.

Yeah i might be acually, but i think ill use the 1293 NA engine for a year because by the end of that year ill have enough for a more beefy build which will include a SC box stuff like that.

Ill be back in the future for more help.
