How do you measure it,Do you measure the dia of the peak and take of the dia at 90 degrees(i.e. base circle size)
Then check against what the lift should be*oh well*

slick it in a block and use a dti gauge but saying that a new cam will show different lobe lifts any way.

just look for flat spots on the lobe tip

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

The cam I have is only shinny on the tips the rest is black

Would this be classed as newish

ah yes i would say so, as long as all the lobes look nice and tipped with out any flat spots then a visual check sounds ok.

excessive cam ware sticks out like a spare prick at wedding.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Yeah I did a cavalier one ages ago,where the followers arn't as wide as the lobes.
You could see where the cam used to be on the outer edges of the lobes
