Sorry just to make sure, on thie distributor to get a fixed 15degrees advance so i need the weights welded up, or just the advance? The guy thats doing it for me has just asked me on a pm and want to make sure.

I think the weights need a blob of weld on them is that right?

thankyou!!!

well you'd better check your facts them because 15 degrees won't work.

stowmaket suffolk

weld the weights so they dont move then you can fix the ign timing to what ever you want.

25 deg seams to be about right 15 will be miles to retarded and the turbo will glow like a cooker.

fix to 22 deg until you get to the rollers.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

Here is an idea, why not take the distributor to pieces and work out which pieces would move under centrifgal force, and then not only will you know which bits to weld together, you'll have learned something about how the dizzy works as well.

if feebs getting the dizzy off me (and I'm welding it up), was just confirming what was needed to be done to it.. Have locked off the vac advance stuff. Never the whole lot (but then I dont tend to play with turbos!! :o )

If its just a distributor locked off so there is no advance (other than what you time it into) then no problemo....

Dave

You want to weld it up to achieve no CENTRIFUGAL advance.

The vacuum advance is kind of unimportant, because as soon as you get onto boost this is returned back to its stop anyway by boost pressure.

I don't know what the guys who run fixed timing do with this, I suppose you could leave it working to try and achieve some vacuum advance to pull the timing up when off boost.

With my fixed dizzy, I removed the vacuum advance and chucked it in the bin (well the spared pile)

i just didnt plump mine in, but i did once and the engine didnt like, when on the rollers it sent my hc levels from 430 to over 3000 , weid,

nine times out of ten for some reason when you rev up on a toatly locked out dizzy the timing retards buy about 2-3 deg which is handy.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I inadvertantly locked one once by having too long a screw holding the points in,took a while to work out why the car wasn't going to good
