ok its been a while since i posted last, but i do keep an eye on whats going on.
i know some time ago people were going on about intercooler efficiency/restriction and was wondering if there is a comparison table.
i now have a selection of intercoolers and some look like they have good flow and some look bigger so more efficient (probably)
currently installed is mazda 323 turbo 4x4 intercooler but its not that good. i also have R5 turbo cooler, escort cossie with charge cooler and saab 900

your general opinions would also be appreciated.

thanks

Russell

Somewhere around Swindon

you might get a bit of lag if you use all them together

the escort one on its own could give quite a bit of lag, its massive. it is possible to fit but i would need to modify the inner wing and maybe not have a driver's side head light!

I belive the estcort cosworth intercooler uses the same core as a sierra cosworth 4x4 but has the added charge cooler.

the 4x4 sierra intercooler is a massive unit on its own and is capable of some massive hp figures.

What sort of engine spec have you got?

If you are only looking at 120bannahs then its pointless using a cooler this big. If you are pushing for 180+ then it would be worth considering

The escort one is big, heavy, and put simply - it's excessive.

Tim, Jon Flanigan, AlexB and several others are using the 2wd cosworth unit (or the 4wd) and these are more than up to the job,

Lag? don't make me Laff!

Work out how much air your engine consumes every 1 second at 3000, 4000, 5000 rpm and then compare that to the internal volume of the intercooler...

You won't even notice the difference IMO.

the escort one is big and a bit hard to fit, so i was considering the Saab 900 one. this would fit behind the van grill and still looks a good size.

as for engine spec. 1293, forged pistons, T2 turbo, omex ignition, big valve head etc. and it has shown 150 bananas in the past but it feels like more are available.

i have also considered either the mazda cooler or the saab one and then use the chargecooler of the escort intercooler as well.

You will not notice the lag difference.

My very efficient Cosworth 4x4 item gained me loads of power.

Just make sure you get it in the air flow.
