Does the inlet manifold have to be plumbed in to the heating system? It seems a bit confusing when intercoolers are added to cool down the charge air, then it is heated back up in the inlet manifold.

And if you cut the metal pipes off its easier to get to the mounting bolts

When I first ran mine I didnt have the manifold heated but in the winter the carb would freeze constantly even with it heated the carb freezes a lot if I have my intercooler open to the elements.
I cover my intercooler when the temp is around 0 degrees.
