Its time to upgrade the metro 4 pots and drop to 7.9 to get the 10s to fit but which of the alloy calipers do you have experience using:

Minisport
Minispares
KAD

do you know of any others that will fit under 10s?

Which would you buy? Cheers for your help

I would go for Minisport, but is it worth paying the extra £100 for Kad?

iv got minispares calipers on my mini at the moment without a servo.
i personaly would fit the bradied hoses aswell which i havent done as space is tight!
i have green stuff pads but there not great unless your hamering it and got them warmed up.
the only thing im having trouble with is the feel of the pedal, which im not sure what the problem is but it feels a bit spoungy (no air in system, or wheel bearings as iv cheacked 100s of times!)
but i would say over all there good for money and 10" wheels are the way to go!!

cheers

ive used both the solid 8.4" and vented 7.5" minispares cast alloy calipers and theyve both been excellent.

I too use the Minispares callipers, and have no problems. The KADs ar probably as good if not better (I've no experiance of their callipers, but every other KAD part on my car is perfect).

Steer clear of Minisport.

Although we have minispares calipers, I don't think the braking is much improved (if at all) over the old metro 4 pots, but they are lighter and obviuosly needed if you are going to 10" wheels.

Well they'll be exactly the same won't they. They do after all have the same pad and pistons. Their only advantage is that they are lighter.

Personally, I'd prefer a set of alloy 2-pots for the front, much better for hillclimbing. they're smaller and lighter, and the smaller pads would heat up quicker, but no-one makes an easily fittable calliper.

An obvious statement I know, Wil, but worth mentioning I think. Mind you I don't think you can improve much on the standard mini disks and calipers. Once the splash/back plate is removed it is nigh impossible to get them to fade.

i dont usually plug these, but there is a budget option of fester calipers aswell.

When i go for 4-pots i'll be using KAD ones.

Spongeyness is still caused by air, the calipers are a nightmare to bleed.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

i have the minisport 4 pots.
i had a nightmare bleeding them too. the fiesta caliper conversion is apparently meant to be quite effective and can fit under 10's

There was a piece written by calver in a mini mag at the end of last summer, he detailed how to bleed them which involved removing the pads and pumping out one piston at a time then pushing it back in to remove trapped air.

A friend had good sucsess doing this, but still has a slightly spongey pedal.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

The problem with the fiesta calipers is that they are really quite heavy and not that good. They are cheep though and for a budget 10" conversion I guess an option, all be it one I would not concider.

I was going to do the festa brake conversion....

However after going out in one (member of my local mini club) I was less than impressed.

Maybe he had a bad set, maybe he had the wrong bore rear cylinders, but all I felt was that it was bad.

I sold the calipers and have gone cooper S...yummy

Well I am happy to be shown the error of my ways. I am supprised that they are lighter though. I find it difficult to like this conversion. I am normally open to cheap ways to improve my car, but then I run 13" wheels so its not a problem anyway.

Am I right in saying the fiesta caliper is a single pot?

yeah its a single sliding jobby. i had a apir i was going to fit but came across some machined 8.4's so stuck them on instead.

found a good source for the callipers though on an xr2 forum, loads of people were ditching the mk1's for the xr2 vented ones

cheers for all your replys sounds like the kad are the safer bet even at the extra cost, although i think the minispares sound like a viable option, nearly brought the minisport glad i stayed away now.

Nic: Havent done a huge amount to the car yet, work commitments and all. It been running that well seems a shame to strip it till its broke, been trying to blow her up but seems bullit proof. Only sorting the brakes cos all bleed nipples have snapped and i am fed up of pumping the pedal they need bleeding.
