as im looking at the pros and cons of a swap to a steel rear beam subframe with coil overs ,instead of the original one with donuts ..has anybody weighed them both to see the loss in weight? the one im looking at is the twin 25mm box one with the bracing strut along it .thanks robert.

i haven't weighed them yet but the rear beam i bought all built up with radius arms and coilovers was noticeably lighter than a standard fully built rear subby. I carried it from me van with one hand where i struggled with the rear subby in both hands.

Cons - lack of places to strap it down to the trailer?

Another big minus: MONEY!

It all depends what you want from the car.
If youre willing to lose impact protection aand spend some money then its well worth it.
I fitted a homegrown alloy box section subframe with KAD alloy trailing arms and Protech coils it saved 30 odd kg.
If you only want the car for everyday road use, I wouldnt bother.
Paul

I seriously doubt it!

but Dave, think about the money you are loosing, it makes you have less money in your pocket, and thus making the car lighter than if you where a millionaire when you are in it:)

How much weight have people managed to cut out of their rear subframes by simply chopping, or removing bits and then adding something else to replace them.

If I could save about 4-5 kg's then I will chop my spare about, if not I won't bother. I am just trying to decide if it is worth the effort.
