My buddy has a 86 300zx with a t3 that he is willing to donate to my cause and i was wondering if it will work or if anyone else has tried this. Probably need to fab a downpipe.

You ideally need to find out the spec of the turbo, A/R ratios etc. Armed with that info you can then make an informed judgement.

I think the 300ZX are a 3.0 twin turbo, so effectivelty 1.5L per turbo, so may not be a million miles away, but still need to look into the specs. Try a search on google or similar.
