What are peoples opinions on floating pins? I am thinking about having my rods machined to have floating pins and then use teflon caps?

ive got fully floating pins with circlips. handy if you melt a piston, but the clips are a little tricky to remove. my only point is my engine was done by a well known engine builder and the small end has been machined out but there's no bush or bearing in it that i could see. there is also no wear on the pin so all seems well. |

With circlips I would definately use teflon/nylon buttons as well. I have previously had one get out and wreck an engine.

I've just binned the circlips and fitted teflon buttons.

ive gone to floating gudgeon pins this year, aparently you can rev higher with them and its a bit of insurance against anything popping out! |

i have floating pins in my omegas, my rods were machined by arrow for the small pins they use. Worth noting that the rods supplied by minispares, ones im using, as being S-reproductions rods are well on the piss. Infact the guy at arrow said that they were 20 or times out of spec (over their top amount of missalignment allowed, i think it was 20 anyway). This means that the little end wanst parallel/aligned to the big end. This can cause some really severe wear.
I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Tom i assume you mean fit teflon bushs as well as circlips. i've not had a problem but will trust you on this as its better to be safe than sorry! yes, sorry, wasn't very clear on that. If I ever built another engine with circlipped gudgeon pins I would definately be fitting the teflon buttons to make sure the clips could not get out. I learned this lesson the hard way :(
