I'm after some decent adhesive type stuff to stick a small magnet onto the outside of my brake drum. anyone got any recommendations?

tried JB weld last year but it just oozed off the drum and wrapped round the magnet instead *oh well*
ended up using some superglue and it stayed on for a few months untill i heard it fly off on the motorway on the way to avon park.

I'd stay stick with JB Weld (pun intended).

Could you make a little cardboard mould to stop the stuff oozing while it goes off?

I used alaldite to stick mine, but you get the same oozing problems.

Id have thought that too but id have thought it would have gone around the driveshaft not the rear brake drum (saying that may have drums all around).

Ive fitted my magnet on the pot joint, but anything over 50 mph and it starts counting down. I think its getting too many pulses per second because the pot is only small, need to put it on the drum for a bigger diameter......
I used grip fill or something similar

cool, looks like another trip to maplins may be in order.

might give some araldite a try first though, cant think of an easy place to drill and tap the brake drum at the minute. my sensors still in place which hangs over the top of the drum, but if i drilled and tapped the drum there then the brake shoes run in the same place on the inside.

I knew someone who stuck it on the inside of their wheel, could that not be an option instead? Also if you have minifins then you could possible drill a hole in a fin and do it that way.

try getting some loctite 330. we use it at work to stick little vortex generators to the fin on tornado aircraft. if it can withstand 1500mph, it can stay on a drum!

Problem you got here is the temperature. The Loctite 330 is a thickened cyno based adhesive similar to "superglue" i think i remember. The Spray can is the activator. Its pretty good with heat but think this may be to much for it. I'd move your pickup.

Why does putting the pickup on a pot joint course more pulses per second than on a larger diameter ? both components are revolving at the same rpm. The only difference would be that the magnet on the larger diameter would move past the pickup more quickly.

What if you make a cap for the magnet and then tap that to the drum

hmmmm, not sure about that t2. where we use it, is directly in the reverse thrust path. when the buckets are deployed, they are directly in the hot exhaust gas. and thats going from freezing air temperatures to super hot in a short space of time.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

i've got some very strong magnets that have a countersunk hole through them. offered them up for fitting in the bottom of the gearbox.

think they work about £1.50 posted. would be ideal as you wouldnt need to be that close i reckon as they are very strong!!
