Heres a photo of my mirage manifold so far with the actuator bracket modified and flipped arround.

Next job is to take it to a turbo place and have it refurbished and get the turbo rotated to point in the correct direction.

Put a few keywords in the post subject for people doing a search in the future

Not very sunny swanage

you can rotate the turbo. get a punch and tap the circlip to check its not seized in place. then place the turbo so its cold side down, fill the recess where the circlip sits with plus gas (wd40 will probably do) and leave over night. next tap the circlip again, should move really easily.... then fetch a reasonable size peice of wood. (i use a hammer handle) and insert it into the outlet of the cold side. it SHOULD move EASILY when you twist it, but for gods sake dont try and force it or you may break the housing. if youve left the lubrication in place long enough, then in my experience it will move very very easily. (have done about 5-6 like this with no probs)

Ps, this is just what ive done, obviously if you break yours its your fault!!!!!! :)

Why not just do it properly, remove the circlip, rotate, replace circlip!

because i dont have any circlip pliers anything like big enough... neither do any of the garages around here. the only people i know who do are turbo reconditioners. but you do have a point... if you do have big enough circlip pliers, then that owuld be the propper way to do it!!!

Herefordshire

you may want to relieve the bracket slightly where it goes over the manifold as it may fowl on the inlet maifold

dont forget to undo the bolts on the other side and rotate the housing so the oil feed is at the top

I have done it with the circlip in place and it moved easially enough if you are gentle with it.

Is that a wise braket design for the acuator?

Will the heat from the exhaust have an adverse effect on the spring and diapram?

I was thinking that, but then they are never that far away from the heat in most cars so I guess it will be fine.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

no but they are usually mounted to the turbo inlet which should be fairly cool and maybe act like a bit of a heatsink?

cool yeah we had a good think about that bit sticking up that might foul the inlet, but it clears it, going to have to check it doesnt touch the bottom of the carb though. that piece isnt really that neccesary though so can always cut two slots and bent it back a little.

any more opinions on the heat transfer thing?

I would create a heat shield to go around the actuator, this way it will give you a bit more protection heat wise, cant say it will be an issue as i dont know how hot the turbo gets, but my standard manifold gets quite hot.

Also the heat shield could look quite tasty but make sure the carb will still fit or make it to include the carbs heat shield.

does that actuator have 2 take offs?

i think the diaphram inside is only rubber or similar, so yeah, would prob add some sort of insulation at this point.

Just uploaded some more pics of some other things i should share...

Heres how and where i had to remove some metal from my inlet manifold...

Heres how close it is fitted (before it was touching)..

and heres my oil drain, its actually less crooked than it looks on this photo. Its the output from the T2 pipe rewelded on a 90degree angle to stick out. The whole pipe and everything takes up the same room as a mechanical fuel pump and should be alot easier to remove when in the car...

And heres my garage today! Its my parents house and its sold so i need to get out in not long at all now, but im happy with the progress.

Just hope it runs/doesnt spew oil everywhere and i dont have to take it back out! haha *surprised*

Im really really stuck on what to do with my breather on the back of the engine. Ive cut it off like iain suggested to pipe it to the others, but i really cant think of what to do, how do i join all the different pipes and whats a good idea?

Someone said that if you get one somewhere else you dont need it anymore. Have a look at this pic... I have one on my timing cover, does that mean i can lose the chest cover breather altogether and i can just blank it off?

can you not get another tappet cover (with out the breather) and get some 10mm pipe brazed onto it? that way you could make a smaller breather

you could then run all of them into the rocker cover, and have one larger on running out of the rocker cover??

those exhaust studs your using seem long

its a pitty you have to leave the lockup, oh well... there's no fridge anyway.

I really like the t2 setup, that could be the solution with my steering column issue.

you could put a hose to each vent and lead them all to a beercan, as TD did.*smiley*
