Wolfie what is up with the clutch? Has it suddenly started slipping?

If it is oiled up from a failed crank seal, get it stinking hot and then pour a can of Coke (proper Coca-Cola, Roller Cola won't do!) down the bellhousing, it will scour the oil off the clutch plate, may just get you home.

My days Rallying.

You do whatever is needed to try and get the car to the end of the event. Including replacing a broken rear suspension strut with a length of steel pipe "borrowed" from a close by road sign......

At least it is not changing a driveshaft lying half in a ditch, yes been there done that.

no clutch is fubarred no oil leaks just wear and tear

cornish hills did it in

pulling away is the problem once on the move its fine, lisa drove the mini to the m5 while i towed the empty trailer, we then loaded up the mini and sat on the moterway just trying not to slow down anywhere, have been told by previous owner (owned for 6 years) that he never replaced the clutch, car now has 164k on its so not done to bad

im not sure what to do with it tom

Mot is till Oct and it still has 4 months tax BUT ....

1)Clutch is totally fcuked
2)dent in side and i cant open 1 of the rear doors
3)i am sure it needs a cambelt as "its not been done for a few years"
4)when i hit 4500 rpm when towing i get very thick black smoke out of the exhaust

really not sure if its worth fixing it or scrapping it and getting something else if i can afford it, sometimes its better the devil you know as it drives lovely once ive got it started

Cambelt is piece of piss, I have done maybe 20 to 25 of these Pug diesel engines, I have the locking kit you can borrow if reqd.

Also I am not suprised it puts clouds of shit out at 4500rpm, with mine I find it is not really worth revving it much past 3500rpm as the power tails off, you are much better changing gear and using the torque in the next higher gear. At 4500rpm you are approaching the governor, which is why is starts to throw out sh1te!

Clutch not horrendous, kit for mine was only £65.

Also try a new set of glow plugs in it to help it start. I put a new set in mine last week and from starting on 3 cyls and putting out clouds of black/blue smoke that made me suspect the turbo was u/s, it now starts lovely with only a bit of a puff of sh1t. When I tested the old plugs, 1 was completely u/s, another was slow to heat up. These were only 12 months old as well, spending £23 on a set of glow plugs saved me getting another turbo for it.
