Well In my eyes I have*tongue*

Stripping the rear sub. Pulled the bearings out of the rear hubs and found Timken rollers as standard*surprised*. and there in perfic condition*happy*

Question is this, when did they start fitting these as standard? other than the Cooper S.

Oh and another thing, has any one else noticed a crazey mix of metric and imperial nuts and bolts on the latest minis, its driving me insane. Twice as many tools strewen across the floor*angry*

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

These were fitted as standard from 1984 onwards, with the introduction of the spaced rear drums to keep the track the same as the wider track front disc brakes.

The rear wheel bearings on Minis are interchangeable as well, so it is possible some (cheapskate) could have fitted ball type wheel bearings to a later car. For the extra couple of quid I always choose taper roller ones whatever the age of the Mini.

Not doubting any one as rover never did follow convetion. But the 94 mayfair was bought at 3 year old with 8000 miles on the clock so doubt they were replaced and secondly ive just looked in the MOSS catalogue and 'standard' bearings are listed as balls and no age descrimination. Tapers are listed as an upgrade.

And yes rollers or balls fit in the same hole.

LOL

that sounds odd

Well, it's a strange one... Supply issues with the taper-bearing supplier maybe?

It's not like the bearing will FAIL immediately - especially with stock wheels. I'm sure you'll NEVER find a pose-pack with ball bearing rears.

i've always had grief when running the taper wheel bearings. when my car was on 13x7's i was told to use them, but i'd only get 6 months tops out of a pair. I swapped back to the ball race type and they lasted a good 2 years before i replaced them for balls again.
