is it possible to use liquid nitroegon as intercooler, just a box with a tube arcoss it. with cap at top. and fill it with liquid nitroegon.

I am not sure if you could carry it on the road, and turbo people dont use them as far as i am aware. why?

Would it work?

I know you have to have some sort of lincence to buy liquid nitrogen. but other than that i dont know.

Not very sunny swanage

i dont imagine it would last long.... form memory it boils and vapourises well bellow zero, so you would have to have a very very well insulted way of storing it!!!! might be quite good for drag racing where you only need it for a few minutes but wouldnt have thought it would be much good for the road.....

then again, its been about 6 years since i last even saw any, and a lot longer than that since i last learnt anything about it, so eveything ive said could be complete rubbish!!!! lol

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

You are very right in what you say. Liquid nitrogen is not naturaly occouring it is natural as a gas. So to make it liquid it has to be very cold (make that very very cold) or under lots of pressure, or more normally both. It would be totally impractical for an intercooler.

liquid nitrogen has to be stored in a vaccuum container to stop it boiling off.

balls to the blower!!!

its not a problem to put you hand down in a container and pick up something, I have tried it, its cold but as long as you dont have the hand down there for long its okay. I put a rubber ball down in it(tha kind that jumps on the floor and so on), let it in there for 5 minuts, took it up and threw it to the floor, it shattered into 1000 pieces*happy*

Are you sure it wasn't 999 pieces? or 1001 pieces? Must have taken you ages picking them all up to count them.

LOL!

Mine gets in the way a bit, but only when it is up. If it is down it does not cause a problem.

Just thought i'd add a little to this, i had a rolling road once (yes i did!) anyway i thought it would be a great idea to spray the IC with C02. Well the C02 wasn't any where the air filter before you clever lot says about that*wink*

The car didn't run as smoothly on way up on the power run as with out and the power was around 10-15 bhp DOWN!

There is such a thing as TO much cooling, and this was it!

Best 1/4 mile 13.2 seconds @116 mph
First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on a carb?
First 5 port miniturbo to make over 200 bhp on Injection?

Nitous oxide is used in this way, sprayed onto the surface of an air to air intercooler, just make sure the cab is well sealed or youl be laughing your tits off by the end of the quarter mile.

What about water methanol spray.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Boiling point of liquid nitrogen is roughly -196 Centigrade, boiling point of Nitrous oxide is roughly -89 Centigrade, Carbon dioxide is a funny one because it sublimes at -78 Centigrade

One thing that everyone is missing though is that its not the temperature of the cooling substance, but its ability to absorb the heat energy you wish to get rid of. Idealy you need a liquid that can evaperate at room temperature with the highest latent heat capacity. These are few and far between. those that are available are either toxic, flamable, or have severe global warming properties.

The best and safest substance to use is water. plain and simple. For many reasons that i wont go into other than its the safest and the cheapest

I doubt very much your hand was in the liquid Nitrogen but rather the vapour. You would not have your hand now if you did.

Having said that, I have seen the scientific demonstration bloke from BOC do some real silly things with the stuff including frying an egg
