ive done 430miles in my mini since saturday afternoon, im trying to get it run in this week. and my head and ears are still ringing from the noise of me straight cut gears and drops, ive got a rattle type noise on idle, which goes when clutch pressed drop clatter is this normal and my gears are very loud, suppose its louder cos me cars stripped out. but are they supposed to be very loud? no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

I think the clatter/chatter is normal.

The clattering noise is normal, yes.

It is nothing actually rattling, it is more the gears chattering against each other as they spin over. Once under load you lose the chattering and instead get the whine we all know and love.

benross had roller drops, im planning to get some one day when i have money to get rid of, as the rattle is no longer there |

Must be pretty much run in now though Carl. How much further are you planning on going? Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

ill try and do another couple of hundred miles then ill get it booked in at mikeanics and see how good he really is. oh i need to get a new boost guage before then. no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

an old mini tuner that lives on the Isle of Man told me block to box gasket thickness can make the difference here. "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"
