Right then...

I have just bought a DV video camera off ebay, now in order to connect it to my laptop I understand I need a firewire port, unfortunately I don't have one at the moment.

On ebay there are lots of PCMCIA adaptor card hoofahs, but at the moment I have only 1 PCMCIA slot, which I use for my wireless broadband.

Now what I want to know is, will this slot support both things, e.g. if I unplug my wireless network card, and then plug the firewire one in, will it recognise the difference and sort itself out, or will I need to fuck about installing things each and every time?

Computer is a Toshiba Satellite Pro 2.8GHz 1.2Gb RAM.

it will be fine tom, you can chop and change them without problems.

You could also get a usb wireless adapter, only about £15, then you could have both in at the same time.

Does the DV camera actually require Firewire or can it be used on USB.
The main reason most equipment of this type specifies Firewire is due to data transfer speed.
USB2 offers similar transfer speeds so should be more than up to the job, providing that your camera has the appropriate connections.

can you still controll the camcoreder over usb2 like you can with FW, ie stop start and cue tape etc.
