What is the Purpose of a dump valve??

i think so yeah, but its not a dump valve as such is it. i thought it was there in the event of overboost. i know mine was hissing like crazy on my first engine when the actuator pipe had fallen off :$

Buds right, that little valve is just to save your engine. The wastegate is more like a dump valve really..
