started the other night all of a sudden pretty much, my cars always been a bit of a smoker but this is really bad now.

when the cars warmed up and i pull up after about 20 seconds of idling it starts chucking absolutely shitloads of thick blue smoke out of the exhaust, i know its definately oil smoke but i can't figure out which bit is causing it.

it does it whether the cars flat or on a slope makes no difference, all i could find really with the search button is that if you jack the back up and it smokes then its the guides but this does it no matter what. The thing that puzzles me is why the 20 second delay before it kicks out plumes of blue?

Could it be my turbo has finally given up? or something more sinister, compression is 12 bar across all 4 cylinders, the head is only just over a year (6000 miles ish) old...

Nick :(

my mates 300zx does this, but it doesnt smoke when your driving it, does your do the same?

if so its aparently the turbo seals are fudged, so dont worry its only a turbo rebuild needed

yeah pretty much, it gives out a little blue smoke when driving but i get a bit of smoke out the breathers aswell so that could just be the rings wearing a bit.

that may of sounded wrong, i was just think thats its far easier to change a turbo rather than splash out on more engine components

what about a kit from iain?

yeah i know what you meant dude, i'm glad it is just the turbo rather than engine bits.

I'm in 2 minds now though, whether to rebuild my T3 or do the sensible thing and swap to a T2. the T2 route would be more expensive than a self rebuild but it'd give far more gains.....but money's an issue as always. :(

decisions decisions...oh yeah, it neeeds to be done for avon aswell whatever i do!

what about giving an rsturdo t3 a go? dont they have a better sized something or another?

though T2's are fun

have a look and see what rears its head on the bay or similar and let that make your choice...

well i've been out in keans car with a T2 fitted and the difference between our cars is unreal. it feels so much better, like it should have been on there as standard.

The only thing thats putting me off fitting a T2 is that i use me car every to get to work and back and there's no way i could get the conversion done in a weekend. Might have to get me old bike out of the shed by the looks of things, making me sweat just thinking about it...lol

You're right about a T2 conversion not being a weekend job Nick, especially if you intend to use the manifold that you have on at the moment.

Best thing to do is refurb you T3 and bang it back on (easy weekend job). Then start gathering all the bits for a T2 together so that you can put it on in a weekend, it'll take a month to gather and modify all the bits.

well i've decided to go for the T2 option. i've got a spare engine i can drop into my other shell so that i can get everything made ready then just swap it all over onto my car.

Just got to start collecting bits now...roll on payday :)

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

dont swap the engines mate, buy a cheap lcb and swap the exhaust manifolds for now.

Thats what i would do. the huddersfield minispares (yeah yeah i know) 26 quid ones arent too bad.

will match up with the exhaust etc and will save the hassle of an engine change to an unknown engine.

lol, i'm not taking the engine out of my car! just meant that i've got a spare engine i can drop into my spare shell so i can build up the T2 setup then swap it all over onto my car.

I'm only using the car to get me to work and back at the minute, i can deal with the smoking till i've got me T2 sorted.
Gutted last night though, was winning a T25 for £5 then in the last 10 mins got outbid, went for £29 :(
