I fired here up today for the first time after I rebuilt the engine completely*happy*
It is running just wonderfull, bit smokey tho*blush* I run her in on 4PSI and see what happens lateron.

Its a 1340 now, with 14cc dished pistons, 286 camshaft, stage 2head and T3 fitted. I have no clue about compression rate. but it is making me smile.*happy**happy**happy**happy*

Superb stuff mate, i have always found fresh engines use a bit of oil and smoke a bit until there run-in. have never bothered to find out why but seems to be the norm i think.

No so good news...
I made the maiden run today, It runs wonderfull.... untill after 20Km it starts to rattle if I require power, there is no lack of power just this awfull sound.
It starts and runs superb, the ignition is at 15 degrees at idle and no vacuum is added. if it cools down the noise is gone but every time after several km it start to rattle. but only at the request of power, if i let go on the throttle the noise is gone.
any suggestions?

I have tried many settings 0 degree, 5 degree, 10 degree... No differences, the rattle is still there. its a very mechanical noise*frown**crying*

if you still have mechanical advance, 15 deg@1krpm +boost is still way to much. imho, tho sure someone will correct me of im wrong. jsut saying.

could be soemthing as simple as a blowign exhaust manifold gasket? gives a very "mechanical" sound. certainly confused teh hell outa me first time i heard it. tho this shouldht happen if your useing a proepr "turbo" manifold gasket with the metal bits.

glad youve got it on the road, cant wait till im in the same position!!

as for the annoying sound, is it rev related, does it soundlike a flutter or a ticking?

Thanks for thinking along.

The sound is rev related and is no blur its a mechanical Ticker, I used the proper metal gasket and the exhaust gasket is still in place.
The ignition is now at 7 degrees advanced and has still the mechanical advance in it. keeps on tickering. The valve clearance is oke and there is nothing touching the rocker cover.
I have no chance of test driving as it rains now. my TM is a convertible.

I have run the same T3 setup on a temperary bog standard 1275 engine and found no probs.
I guess its time to lift the head again and have an closer examination.*oh well*

BUT IT RUNS LIKE HLL, GREAT FUN SUCH A TM*happy**happy*

Head then bottom end, that sucks :(

Always get a bit edgy with new engines, i always end up pulling them fast incase its something serious as i dont want to feck a fresh block or crank etc... :(

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie
