I am currently fitting glass to my shell, I have a choice of two windscreens. One being laminated and the other not...

The non laminated is slightly lighter.

But surely the laminated glass is safer?

I'm torn on what to do and your opinions and glass information would be appriciated

PS one day I hope to race in mighty minis - however I cant see anything in the regs RE front glass having to be laminated, would they mind?

laminated is safer but far easier to brake when trying to put it in, toughned glass you can literally punch and it wont brake but a stray stone or a bit o ceramic off a spark plug and it shatters into a million peices

I've just trawled through the blue book and can find nothing either, I'm sure it's in there though.

If it were me I'd put the laminated one in. Get a stone hit that and you'll likely get to the end of the race with a cracked screen, at worst you';ll be able to see where you're going to get off the track, with a toughened screen you're fucked.

Yes I agree with Will, I have in the past had a toughened screen shatter on me on the road, it is a very scary moment, both from the shock of it happening, and also that all of a sudden you can't see bog all!
I'd never fit a toughened screen into a Mini now unless I had absolutely no other option.

So laminated it will be....

If you look at the small printed into on the screens it will either say "Laminated" or "Toughened" easy as that!

Toughened was standard fit for a long time, I do not know what the changeover date was, possibly about 1987 but I could be wrong there.
