Well the world has gone mad, since the introduction of the new computerised MOT test, it seems there is a wait of up to a week at any time to get a test!

Bollocks to that, I drove my mini around without a test for months last year. It has no bearing on tha validity of the insurance. Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

The new computerised MOTs are a pain in the arse. Most places don't give free retests anymore (infact, I don't know of anywhere that gives a free retest!)

in the event of an accident, if your car has no MOT it is deemed unroadworthy, and your insurance is invalidated.

they cant do free retests due to the fact the computer has to be logged on for a certain amount of time to validate the 'test', if a quick retest is done then it sais the test hasnt been performed correctly. What a load of bull.. I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

Nope, just because you have an MOT does that mean that your car is roadworthy? Does it bollocks. You could go and put bald tyres on 10 minutes after getting a new ticket.

By the same token not having an MOT does not mean that you car is unroadworthy. You need the ticket to get tax but that just forces you to get an MOT. Put it this way, has anyone ever had to produce an MOT for an insurance claim? not me. And if it was a serious accident the car would be inspected for roadworthyness, rather than just checking the MOT. It honestly does not invalidate your insurance. Wil yep on all claims (2 in the last 2 years) you insurance is invalid unless you meet statutory requirements (mot tax etc) if you get away with it your lucky. |

yeah, they seem to get enough buisness through the cheaper price and retest to make it worth while. although it aprears i just jinxed it because my mate just told me the mot bloke had handed in his notice and another blokes getting the sack for not turning up because "he was still pissed from the weekend"!! lol good excuse in my books!

i have a very simple agreement with my local mot tester... i send him a shit load of cars each year, and in return he spends five minutes doing a mock mot (you should see the bugger move!) if its ok, he books it on, if theres any work to be done, he tells me, i take it away and fix it, then he does the mot propper!! easy.... And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers! |

If you have ran out of MOT but you have an opointment and your still in Tax your are legally allowed to drive your car. Thats how it works in Northern Ireland anyway. There was a massive balls up not that long ago and there was people waiting for MOTs for 3 months +. So they had to issue people with certificates saying they're waiting on an MOT. The same certificate could be used to getting your tax too. I didn't even get a certificate and they said I could still drive mine. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

you only have to have insurance on the way to a pre-booked mot as long as its not a million miles away type thing! i think it states the nearest test centre but i'm guessing there is some discression (cant spell!!) |

insurance companies for years can check if a car has a mot buy using the dvla, and its even easier for them now on this new computerised system, thats why they never ask because they already know. always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas |
