How much is this gearbox worth, i know it's difficult to judge from photos, but how much money would you risk on it?

personally, about 50 quid tops.

then again i've no idea what to look for, but its missing the diff and drops for a start and it could be fubared.

I kind of agree. There is no mention of condition. Ask lots of questions or go and see it if you are serious.

Other comment I will make is that it looks like an A-series with the smaller idler gear bearing.
