I've managed to pickup a half finished westfield for peanuts, at the moment there is a k series engine in it. I'm going to pull this engine out, what would you recomend I fit?

What's wrong with a K? Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

Last time I was at Cadwell I had a ride in one with a stock 1.6 k-series engine.

I'd love a bike engined one, but I think for the road something with more torque would be more fun most of the time.

I only own half the car, so don't have total say. the K series engine is in the car, but is not running, lots of bits missing. So how much can you tune the K series engine? what can you squeze out of them? On 15th May, 2009 TurboDave said:

The mods I have seen recently to the K is to stroke it to a 1.9, this apparently works very well and I have seen claimed upto about 240bananas.

The K is the best 4 cyl engine ever made I think. I'm sorry Peter but having replaced head gaskets on many of these engines I cannot agree with that statement......

I was sure that the 1.9 I saw was stroked, I didn't pay to much attention though. As far as head gaskets go the problem was fixed ages ago. They had a problem, but if it has been replaced by the propper new gasket it should not be a problem.

Don't get me wrong, the K series is a good engine, it certainly delayed the inevitable demise of the Rover group.

There have been many discussions on that 'chav car' site (who's name i've forgotten) about the K-series head gasket issues, and the current gaskets/dowel pins that appear to have alleviated the problems once-and-for-all.

there was a vvc'd k series metro racing JF on sunday that had about 200 bananas iirc put this in a RWD wahoo. the head gaskets are prone to going and the heads can warp quit easily but spares are plentiful and cheap and to be honest head gasket isnt a big job. if all or most of the bits for this engine are there id stick with that.
no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.
