I've been having trouble keeping any oil in the Mini 35 dashpot, HIF38.

I read on here the other day that you can use 90W gear oil, so I thought I would give it a try. It actually improved off idle pick up once it had warm up a bit.

Anyway, I did over 200 miles in it today. Checked it just now and there's sod all oil left in it again.

I've got a rebuild kit but it doesn't seem to include any parts for the plunger.

Is this normal, or do I need to change the piston and dashpot?

Help appreciated.

On Holiday in this weather!

No, I presume that it goes into the carb through the annulus betwen the piston and dashpot.

i stripped down a lot of hif38's just recently to convert my twin hif4's to hif38's. On several i've found that the plug which forms the bottom of the plunger is either damaged or holed. Never sure how this can happen, but i've found it on more than one carb. Infact now i think of it, my own carb has the very same problem, i'll have to go check it later.

I presume your not overfilling it? iirc it should only be 2/3 full.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie
