Hello.

I am currently fitting my 1972 MG Midget with the top end of an MG Metro Turbo engine. The basic rules should be fundementally similar to the process of fitting a MG metro turbo engine to a mini I beleive...

Ive come to plumb in the oil feed for the turbo. I had originally planned to take the oil feed from the oil pressure guage, as discussed with various experts on the forums. However, the oil feed pipe and oil pressure guage pipe have different diameters/bores.

Would it be suitible to take the oil feed from the Oil Cooler, which is a standard fitment to the MG Midget? As the pipes are the same diameter and size.

Any suggestions, advice or answers would be very much appreciated.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,

Richard

we do it by getting a kit which avon bar sell for one that takes the feed from the block where the oil pressure switch goes, http://www.speedgenie.co.uk/avonbar/mainFrameset.html aeroquip type oil feed this one, go to turbo then turbo equiptment to find

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

well the oil cooler if you wish *wink*
its the same ends to the goal!

having thought about it its unfilterd oil to the turbo anyway
as its straight from the pump *frown*

and does not go through the filter this is why so many turbos go Pear shaped

am i right chaps ?? *indifferent*

as long as you regulate the flow down to the same bore size as the metro plumbing which is around 7mm ID

iam glad this subject has poped up

HOW many turbos have caved in using the OE plumbing

this needs to be filterd to the turbo bearings

so place a filter inline

i may stand corrected though! *wink*

Or... weld a boss ontop of the filter head and take filtered oil straight to the turbo....

There is a way of converting the engine to a pre filtered set up. A local engine builder does that but he's lips are sealed! Definately on my list-of-things-to-do list.

Thanks for your advice everyone. I've just ordered the T peice as discussed above.

It would be very interesting to take this turbo'd Midget to a track day with turbo'd Minis, to see how the performance lines up.

I should have the car ready in about 2-3 weeks, assuming it doesnt explode when I turn the ignition for the first time.

Any track days planned in the near future?
