Preston On The Brook

When I pulled the car appart, I never managed to split the driveshaft from the pot joint, both just wouldnt budge, ended up removing the boots.

While cleaning the joints to re build them, i still couldn't remove the pot joint. Closer inspection revealed that Rover changed the driveshaft design. Instead of the shaft being machined with the shoulder that the 'O'ring and pot joint seat on, there is a large 'C' clip that is not dissimilar to the one that the outer CV joint seats on. This however leaves a gap rendering the 'O'ring that is still installed, useless, alowing ingress of water into the splines and rusting the two compnents together ( had that happen before on an 84 mini).

Good job I have a pair of shafts off a 92 Cooper so I needn't bother with these for now.

Any one else had a problem?

Is it A-Series only? I think it should be...
So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...
