The story so far for those who haven't been listning.

TT2 got fitted with new head, intercooler and T2, stuck it on the rollers and produced less power, then the head gasket blew.

Took it to Curborough, felt slower but got some good times, head gasket ok.

Refitted T3, took it to the rollers and blew another head gasket before we got a propper power run.

Fitted extra studs to block and went to Curborough (again) still wioth T3. Beat our best times (by 1/2 second), but terminal speeds were the same if not slower than with the T2. Head gasket survived.

So what now.............

Well as a precaution I've removed the head to inspect the gasket, it looked brand new, so hopfully the extra studs have worked (I put in standard 3/8 studs torqued to 60NM if anyone is interested).

But the T2 is going back on with the mods to the manifold at the head end to match the head port size/gasket size and at the turbo end to remove the diividers (should have done them in the first place).

It won't go back on the rollers, but it can only be an improvement.

Shame you're not able to get a power-run with the T3, but there you go...

The power run we did get indicated similar power to the T2 at slightly lower revs, maybe 400rpm. No idea of torque.

However with the T3 on at the weekend I was struggling in slow corners getting boost (just like the old car.) With the T2 a few weeks earlier I was much happier with the response. I suspect that the T3 does give more power, but the T2 is better out of slow corners, thus giving good times. I think I said this at the time.

Anyway I think a new propperly matched turbo will be on the shopping list over the winter and we wll run the T2 for the rest of the year.

Btw if anybody is interested in the specs of the car as it is take a look at the website

http://www.twin-turbo.co.uk/

I will write an event report once I have the times from the event.

"mods to the manifold at the head end to match the head port size/gasket size "

yes that works

"and at the turbo end to remove the diividers "

I thought you needed them ? I just thined the middle 2 down-without making the ports too big,as it would slow down the gas flow

like this. Remove was probably too strong a word (try remove some of)

Otherwise it's a really tight hole the exhaust has to get through from No. 1 and 4

So with the head off I decided to quickly measure the chambers. I spec'd 25 cc but it looked more like 28cc. So we've got around 7.9:1 CR rather than 8.3. We ran 8.3 on old engine.

This may explain the higher boost threshold a bit.

arent the 2 end ones supposed to be torqued to less, particularly the water pump end?

stupid cars, hopefully you get to the bttom of this

will you be skimming the head to bring the cr back up?

Standard torque is 68NM, so that is a bit less. i think that they are a lot lower if you use thinner studs.

Yes the head will get skimmed, hopefully before Avon

Well the T2 is back on with all the mentioned mods done to the manifold etc. There are no RR results, but the differance is noticable when driving. In fact it was so brutal with the LSD that we turned the boost down.

It will be turned back up for Avon though.

It hasn't been skimmed. The big change it the mods to the manifold. We are debating wether to skim or not at the moment as it working well with the low compression. We will see how it handles boost at Avon before we decide what to do.
