Not been able to upload to my megajolt yet due to my cheap nasty usb to serial adapter not working at all, going to have to try get an old laptop with a com port instead to keep things simple.

Ive checked the fuel pressure and its at 3.7psi and theres plenty of fuel getting to the carb and a good strong spark.

With the megajolt power disconnected, when i attempt to start it, it starts and revs up for about 4 or 5 seconds then cuts out. It then wont start again unless i leave it for about 5 minuets. Is this normal?

My other question is about my carb, ive been looking through my leyland manual and haynes and the only one that gives some tuning from scratch details is the leyland one, but it only covers carbs with the screw nut on the bottom, like 998cc's etc.

I was wondering if my problem is because my carb needs adjusting. Ive tried adjusting the mixture and the idle up and down 2 or 3 full turns but it affects nothing.

does anyone have a link or anyting on a guide of how to set up carbs, all i can find searching the internet is how to do webber carbs. Ive got the lambda sensor and guage so once it is idling ok that will help tune it too.

thankyou :)

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

there could be a few things wrong with it but... sound like a sticking float bowl valve

this must be checked out to eliminate this!

Thanks benross!!! Ive not ever looked inside the bottom of a turbo carb, but im thinking that the float bowl is inside there?

If it is ill take the carb off in the morning and take the plate off.

The metro turbo that had the carb on it ran fine when lee parked it up so it might have just stuck from being stood

I got shown this guide on how to tune SU's

Have you got the fuel pump wired direct,as if you still have a metro oil pressure sender that could be a problem due to it working in reverse to the mini sender-and cutting the fuel supply when oil pressure is up instead of the reverse

no, i havent cut out any holes?? I never have done this either, where is the airway? would it not have been cut out of the gasket already? Ive never had to do that before but ill take it off now if you think its that?

Turbo gasket has 3 holes each side.N/a gasket has 2 each side

Thats the gasket between plen and carb

The holes in the gasket won't make a toss of difference until the engine is running under boost pressure.

As it won't run for more than 5 secs look elsewhere...........

Try running without the fuel cap on,incase you have a blocked vent and are creating a vacuum in the tank (would have thought it would take longer than that though)
Also if you are using a spi/mpi tank they require quite a lot of fuel in as the outlet is pretty high up in them

yep theres a tenner of fuel in the tank. Will try dangerous' idea with the fuel cap, and then if that doesnt work im going to take the carb apart and look at the float bowl parts. I cleaned out the top of the carb and the piston and things, but i never took off the bottom plate.

I have a inline fuel filter right before the carb, so the regulator fuel-out goes through a filter striaght into the carb could this be a problem? Would the filter be better between the tank and the regulator? The pressure is really good though so i didnt think it was this.

Thanks about the gasket, but it was from a turbo headset and im just hoping that i would have noticed the holes missing, but ill check that gasket after ive took benross's advice.

Cant work on it until monday morning now wish i could!!

Redex?

Why are you running cleaning additives into a new engine?

Also I'd be careful with that plastic fuel filter, can't see that putting up with 15psi+ fuel pressure for long.

Speedpro have written an entire book on this, well worth a read.

Oh right! just going down to town now to get some other bits and bobs so ill get a metal one if i can find one.

About the redex, i didnt think it would cause a problem? I wanted the carb to have a good clean too, i really wish i could have refurbished it but with the cost of the reconditioned turbo i couldnt.
