Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

theres no gain! and if there were the heat transfer.... into say the rad would be massive! *frown*

now cooling the turbo housing for the bearings there is.....*happy*

look up some Japanese turbos on google *wink*

some peeps on TMs run water cooled bearing housings

well im going to fabricate my own janspeed style manifold and have the turbo over the clutch housing.
my dad was thinking of having a sperate pump and rad with a electric fan or somthing for the water cooled exhaust but space is the enemy!
i have a water cooled T2 of a renalt 5, so would that be enough even though the inlet for the water to go through looks very small!
ill have to look into it all a bit more, but has any one tryed this before?

cheers

i thought that in order to get exhaust gases out of the cylinder efficiently you wanted to keep the exhaust hot?

hence manifold lagging etc.

You don't want a cool exhaust manifold. Why do you think people use heat wrap?

Why would you try to cool the exhaust manifold?

In order to get the most efficiency out of your turbo you don't want to lose any pressure or velocity before the exhaust gasses reach your turbo. If you cool your exhaust manifold, temperature and hence presure of the exhaust gasses drop (with thanx to Boyle-Gay-Lussac) *wink*.

One of the reasons why people use exhaust wrap: keep your exhaust gasses hot (the other is protect your engine bay from the heat).

iv heard people say that there home made exhaust manifolds crack as they get so hot!
so i thought that it would be a good idea to cool it down a bit!? or is this not the case?

Well they do crack because of the heat, but the fix is not to cool them it is to make them right in the first place. i.e. out of the right material and fabricated in such a way that expansion is allowed.

Seen water cooled cores - and more recently water-cooled turbine housings, but never a manifold...
