Renault 5 is 1400cc engine
Renault 25 is 2500 cc engine

Therefore would expect quite a bit of diference

ahhh, just clicked as to what R25 is (durrr), big barg of a car.

As captain danger says, probably not a good choice, just too big.

T3 requires the bulkhead cutting and welding then its a bolt together job with parts from the metro turbo

T2 is simple with the Mirage kit with no cutting and welding

do it yourself T2 or T3 will require lots of welding and fabrication, and can be a pain in the backside.

if you dont have all the metro parts consider the mirage kit.

Slightly OT but I didn't realise your were going for a 999, if it's the bore and stroke I think it'll be an interesting engine. I once meet a chap who raced a NA one back in the days of the 1L classes and it reved like there was no tomorrow. Also it'll give you a good choice of pistons. The down side is the block and crank won't be cheap.

Interesting, I presume you're getting the pistons at mates rates judging by the price. Got to say I can see the sense behind boring out an 850, both in cost of purchasing the engine and the fact that they can be rebored with out pushing them over 1L. Will this engine be running the K series head or is that a no go as far as the hill climbing runs are concerned?

Thanks :) Mine isnt' the engine you think though, it's not a cooper 970 bored to 999, its an 850 bored out to 68.3 ish mm using custom pistons. I scored a 11,000 mile 850 engine for £13 on ebay, and it's internals, crank etc are as new! So I'm hoping it will be fairly cheap. The roller cam is the most expensive part as it has to be ground on a custom virgin blank. The roller lifters are adapted aftermarket parts from a US V8. Even the custom forged pistons are around £240, 1/2 the price of omegas etc. Cubic enginuity rather than cubic cash :) The whole thing will be around £1400 including the dry sump set up. That doesn't include a box though.

What do you do with thrust washers for the crank?

That's my thought. I don't think that std size 850 thrusts would take a grey diaphragm for long.

Again though, I'd say unless there is a specific reason, go for the 1275 as a T2 on a mirage kit on that is a storming peice of kit. Look at Nic's car for proof of that!

hehehe smugness!!! thanks

Just realised that you would have bothered with a roller cam if you were going for a K series head. Also just found the thread on your 850 engine so I feel like a right idiot.

hi yeah mines running now, mines a 1040cc with a T2 turbo on it and a standard turbo head and running really well!! not sure of power yet but its only running 4psi and its a hell of alot faster than my 1.3 turbo was at 6psi, the boost kicks in really early and strong for 4psi and its nice and drivable. Having fueling problems at the moment think its the pressure regulator.

Mines built as a road car and not going to be running much more boost, dont need to, i have my rev limiter set to 5000rpm (its on megajolt) even though the engines built to rev high, im really happy with how quick it is!

Previous Engine: 1040cc Morespeed engine, 1275 turbo head T2 Turbo Mirage Manifolds Megajolt
Previous engine: STD metro turbo, megajolt
Drives: 399bananahp (flywheel) Honda Civic Vtec b18c4 T28 Turbo 1968 Mini
