(copied from another forum that I can't link to - hence the blatant plagiarising)!!!!

It's a usa forum, but these things must be available in the UK - or via USA>UK mail order....

Just thought it'd be usefull *smiley*

For crown wheel to LSD fastening I use ARP Chevy Torque Converter bolts, 12 point 1/4" high head, 3/8 -24 x 3/4, ARP part# 230-7301, 200,000 psi. This is a kit with washers and shouldered nuts, which are not used, but may come in handy as spares, elsewhere.
You might be able to get just the bolts from ARP although they will not sell to you directly. The good thing about ARP230-7301 is that they are easy to find in local speed shops. There are 3 bolts per kit, so two kits are required.
There are no clearance problems since they have the low profile head, and they are STRONG. Don't forget to chamfer the hole under the head in the diff housing flange.

Most likely. During the late sixties, Minis were never abused in motorsport ever *wink*

I'd agree with that, the tyres available in the 60's were the weak link, not the g/box.

ah - but don't forget the whippy whoppy torque of a 970 or 1071 engine though LOL!

The taller FD's really show the weakeness of the casing aswell... I might be wrong, but believe that you couldn't get anything taller than a 3.44 back in the sixties?

I'm just not sure how the older trans is that much stronger - unless I'm missing something?

3.44:1 was indeed the tallest FD in the old days...

I can't think what the remote casings look like inside. Is the centre web any thicker / stronger in appearance?

I'm pretty sure that alumimum alloys / casting technology was better in the late 70's / 80's than the sixties... But that's not to say the cash-starved British Leyland / AR actually utilised this technology - so that could well be a very valid argument. :)

well heres the part numbers of the bolts in question,
just so we are taslking about the same thread size,
i use 3/8 unfx3/4" long. although 3/4" is longer than needed it passes into an area where it cannot foul anything.

3/4 long part no OLO372,
5/8 long part no OTO642.

if needed you will have to look up your local yellow pages for your nearest depot, and by my info there is only nine in the uk,
if anyone is stuck for some i'll happily buy a rake and site on them,
it'll cost you what they cost me plus one beer, lol.
