Hello all, can someone tell me is there a better turbocharger to use other than the standard t3 that came with the metro turbo. the engine has all the goddies was just wondering is there a better turbo that may perform better, as in boost earlier in the rev, more efficient, more power. 1293 engine avr phase 2 cam big valve ported n polished head.a friend told me to use the gt17, another told me to use a newer t3. also neither friend has used either of the turbos mentioned. plz advise. this should be interesting.

Have a search.

You can't go wrong with a GT1752.

Easy way to kill a new thread is saying use the search, by the time you have typed it you may have just have given him a short answer or a link to what he wants to know, I appreciate the fact that it gets a bit boring for you people that's been on this forum a long time. To Finnish my rant it is sometimes a good thing to re-ash an old thread or topic because new things are discoved, people find new ways to do things. Surely if you don't want to answer a thread then don't, I'm sure someone else Will. I'm not trying to be nasty or anything like that, but saying all the time use the search really is boring. Alan.

Better that than get no answer at all. A search will give more information and opinion than one thread. Use the search really is the best advice

Ben I get what you say, but I have never seen a thread on this forum not answered unless the question was completely stupid. Then deserves to be ignored.

Sometimes when you do use the search it throws up no results, simply because the info is there but not got a title that relates to the information your looking for. I know it's not always possible but it would help if when we post we made sure we got the title to fit the subject. Just a thought. Alan

I agree totally about making our thread titles more easily searchable (and I always try to do so with mine, even including different spellings) but I'm not sure everyone realises you can tick the "search post body" box as well when doing a search so the title isn't so important.

In this case if I search "GT17" with that box ticked I get back over 100 results (virtually all in favour of the GT1752).

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Have a search really is the best advice here.

If you type 'what turbo' for instance, you get a ton of useful threads.

GT17 is the best of both worlds, boosts abit earlier than the t3 and is more efficient

if you want to get up to speed quicker use a lower ratio diff
but sacrifice top end speed

That's a good tip about ticking the box, I didn't realise it was there, but I do think that throwing the search at newbies right away is not the right way to go, I've been into car mechanics all my working life, but when I started with turbos was a hole new ball game, did not know the terminology or the right words to put in the search until things are explained to you. Not everyone was born to go to college, and that includes myself. Lol.

I think 'what turbo' it pretty straightforward terminology.

I agree that the newbies need a bit if hand holding with other topics, but not this one.

Ok mate you may be right I'm not an expert but what's obvious to one person isn't to another, just giving my opinion for what it's worth. One other thing on the search is its all or nothing sometimes and when you get the all, trolling through page after page is very daunting. Lol.

Ps. And boring!!!.

That was the first place I went too as well. I was lucky I had my son Craig (dig-mini) to help me a lot with the turbo side of things. and TM of course.

in a semi-related way, I find the best way to search for stuff is to use google, and use the 'site:' feature. Example, you want to search this website you would put "site:turbominis.co.uk" (without the ") before the terms you are searching for, this then uses googles amazing ability to actually find what you want and everyone is happy.
