I have been thinking about these for some weeks now, the 3 kits on the market I have been looking at are-
Mini spares £299.84

MED £350

Swiftune £426.00

All 3 look to be made in the same place!

Now I was chatting to Matt at the weekend and he said that the set he fitted from MED sounded like shit!then I was stood next to Chris D car and I was not to keen on the sound of his Mini Spares set *oh well*

so has anyone fitted the Swiftune set? if so how did they sound? also from what I have found out from the lads that there is a lot of side to side play in the gear. Is this the same in the Swiftune kit as there looks to be a bolt in there kit.

Any help would be good.
Simon.

Spares and MED gears are the same, all interchangeable. I'm running the timken set and it's much quieter than the Jack Knight Timken set it replaced.

I was gonna say, my timkin ones are fairly quiet.

Is it the whine or the chattering on tickover that you dont like? I assumed its the chattering

I seriously doubt it!

Dilligaf mate that's for a Pre A+

Paul I don't have any chattering really as I shimmed right up but there is still some, its more the whine now.

I would like to play with the ratios if I could to see what gains it gives.

You said you didnt like the sound of Chris Dillows drops - was that the chattering you didnt like? If so you wont get away from it as you dont shim them.

Why are you bothered about the whine?

I seriously doubt it!

It was the chattering really on chris's car that put me off them really. As my car has not got that so I would hate to Up grade To a down grade.

I know the whine is fun for the 15min drive, but I do like to drive the Mk1 on long drives this is why I was looking at these as with most things as Tec moves on stuff get's better.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

EEEEGHHHHH......WRONG!

You need to live a bit more and use the mini where it works best................ The A, B and unclassified roads *happy*

Sitting on the straight Motorways at constant rpms is just mundane and wrong. If anything the Motorways drive me crazier than the high pitch whine for straight cut drops !

Just my opinion *wink**wink*

What I mean by this mate, was that I like to drive it to places such as Avon, MITP, Newquay, Roberts place. You get the idea.

We go on holiday to Cornwall in the Mini (when its on the road) and never use a three lane black top all the way there.

I don't like mine on tickover, makes my engine sound like a bag of nails.
I don't think you'll get past that Simon, mine was iding faster than normal and sound wasn't half as bad with std straight cut drops.
Have you got straight cut drops already?

leeds/wakefield.

There is nominally about 0.016" backlash on a se tof SC drops, little bit less in the gears which are the same as the SC /helical CWP, yes about 1mm of backlash in the three sets,

quite fucking appalling really isn't it ,lol
