I need an auto as I'm having to work the in the middle of Manchester. Would you buy a c class merc. I'm looking at a c350 cdi.

If not what would you suggest.

I like a sporty ride and something with some go...

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Having been I the new 5 series and the equivalent merc I would have the 5 anyday. My best mate has a 320 efficient dynamics and I have to say its a bruiser when it comes to sipping fuel. End of the day its what you want not everyone else *wink*

Edit forgot to add my dad and I managed nearly 1000miles from one tank in his 525d (new one) that was at 65-75 for 85% of that

If you want a sporty ride, forget the Merc. Having driven a few mercs I would steer clear. I have found them all shitly made and badly thought out.

I'd try the commute in the manual and see how you get on. It never bothers me queuing in a manual.

The clutch is the worst I have ever used. I have owned the car two years and I can still stall it, you have no control? I think the use a delay valve and it's shite. I also damaged my knee a while back, it never bothered name before as everything was motorway, a week of this and I'm starting to notice it.

Fair enough. What about a VW/Audi group car with the DSG. Everyone I know who has one loves it.

I'm very impressed with the new mondeo, the DSG box is supposed to be excellent also.

I have the estate which drives like a hot hatch. Superb grip and feel.

My gaffer has a Tit X Mondo with the TDCI engine and powershift auto box. It's a cracking thing to drive.

all I can add to this is that I went from manual to auto when I bought the A6. It is great about town and in traffic but it is a hell of a lot heavier on fuel than the manual. I do know people running newer models (BMW, Merc Audi) who are getting far better consumption which I assume is due to advances (mine is a 2006 car).

all auto's get crap mpg but the vw / audi seem good
a passat estate gets me 45mpg round town

as much as it pains me to say the bini's seem to be class leading atm with 60+

depends whether you need a willy waving car or not

I must admit I do love my current car, trying to find one with the auto that isnt over my budget.

The new shape F10 onwards is a very very nice car, but a little too expensive at the mo.

I have noticed that cars seem to be more expensive now than they were two years ago but maybe thats me...

The new auto's seem to be good on fuel and if you can stretch to one of those 8 speed ZF boxes they are listed as good as the manual..

I run a supercharger and I don't care the TB is on the wrong side.

Head above parapets, Clio tdci 60 mpg. I suffer from all manner of back and joint problems and I find it astonishingly good to drive. Sat on the drive is the W124 E280 Merc and the GTB Legacy and I grab the Clio keys every time.
