changing the topic title may help with your search for transporters in wales :)

i can advise you with the t4's the 2.5's arent very reliable
i'd personally go for a transit if your using it as a work vehicle
if its a posey camper crack on *happy*

I dont agree i think the 2.5 is the better engine, 1.9's are underpowered but reliable 2.4's crack heads

I had a 1.9tdi there a bit underpowered as said but not to bad. If I was to get another I would go for a 2.5 just if your near London make sure it's no older than an 02 plate because if the low emission zone

Matt not sure how new you are looking but just keep an eye on the cost to tax, after I think 2006 (?) it goes up quite a lot for bigger stuff.

Hi Matt, I got mine from a place in Cardiff, but it was just a van dealer moving on stuff coming off contract hire. As with any internet search you will find all sorts of horror stories about typical problems they suffer, but then nobody posts up to say they've run their van for 150k miles and nothing happened!

Personally mine is a 130ps 2.5 T30 Kombi and I've not had anything other than normal service and wear items. The turbo went last year at 144k miles and the power steering pump was leaking early on but other than that I can't think of any major expenditure.

I would make sure it has been serviced properly with VAG Longlife oil, there are genuine horror stories of cams being wiped by using cheap diesel oil. I believe there are issues with later vans fitted with DPF unless you are doing lots of motorway miles to burn it clean (or whatever voodoo happens in them!)

Best mpg I've had is just over 39mpg on a run up north (proper north, the Highlands!) and on the run down to MITP i got 32mpg and 29 on the way back.

I still love mine and it drives pretty much like a car and if I ever move it on I'll be getting another!

If you get the logbook changed to motorhome once the van is converted then you're free to enter uncle boris's city without paying £100 a day for the priviledge.

Don't know much about the T5's other than the one we had at work was constantly fucked.

T4 wise I'd go for a 2.5tdi, the 102bhp ACV engine rahter than the 88hp if i was being fussy. Although my next one might be a 1.9td, depends what's out there really. you can tweak the 102hp up to 150hp pretty easily with an injector swap and normal breathing mods and a remap.
The only real issue with the 2.5's is the diesel pump timing, it will throw itself out for the fun of it which makes the van sluggish and chuck out black smoke. It's easy to sort when you've got your head round it and paid $99 for the VCDS software.

I had a 2005 t28 174 ps from new and I love it, only had the manifold split and a water pump. it so quick for a van though if pushing on (over 75 ) it drinks fuel ! just done 1200 miles over the weekend and used £224 worth of fuel

thanks Nick super helpful info that. I was thinking about the same sort of lines but what about this.........if i get a panel van, with no windows in, how many and where have they got to be to make that into a car IE and can do 70 mph and not the 60 that vans should do?

Thanks Jambo that looks sweet :)

a little OT, but I'm sure Keith T's T5 is registered as an 8 or 9 seater (even though it only had 5 seats in it!) which gets you round the congestion charge? not sure on this though

I can't remember exactly Matt, I know there's info on the T4 forum for what exactly needs to be done to change the log book to motorhome and allow you to do 70mph and get into that London without paying.

Got my new one on Sunday, bye bye S2k and hello Sunshine Bus Mk2 :)
