Cool.
Carl reckons he's done my crank and rods to same spec as "The Don" hopefully if I build it right I should be able to turn some serious revs!

If something is worth doing, it's worth doing half of.

So to conclude, in theory a 180/200hp 5port turbo should last the day of abuse at the track?

Obviously were taking into consideration the engine is build/ mapped well .

Jim, do you think yours has managed better due to the efi to control things alot tighter.

It doesnt look like there is anyone doing what im planning with mine so looks like il be the test dummy.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

OI! I'm not having that! If Carl (a) had his way and (b) knew how to do it on the software for the ECU, he would have RAISED yes RAISED the rev limiter on the DON ages ago. In fact he really wanted to turn it off! Seriously!

You should have seen Dave Walkers face when I took it to be mapped, he asked what the rev limit was, I phoned Carl, and then told Dave it was 9k!

In actual fact I've just remembered that I have reset the ECU telltale from 9600rpm before now- at a guess burning out and clattering it off the limiter and the ECU didn't catch it in time? Anyway 10k beckons, maybe at the end of a season eh Carl!

Lets face it though, the Don doesn't run your average spec does it - so its not surprising that its lasted as its been developed and built properly to do exactly what it does.

Obviously not saying anyone elses engines aren't built properly, but its all relative. My engine was a good spec and very well balanced and was capable of much more but I was wary about pushing it too hard, therefore I never ran mine above 6k - infact the soft cut was set at 5800 and hard cut at 6000. As a result though, the only things that ever let me down with it were the horrible 25 year old ancillaries that were bolted to it and one head gasket failure.

I think it has helped, but I never had problems running 18psi on a 5 port either, I only went 16v as me old head went porous
