the tyres are now cleaned up and the outers have gone away to be powdercoated a certain colour i wanted. so theyre not going to be all shiney anymore but nevertheless they will look a treat.

im thinking i may order a new set of SS bolt for them just to finish them off when i get the peices back *wink*

they are the same size as my polo wheels which have 13x7 revos with the same tyres as minis i believe, i think the fact they are only 6" wide gives and illusion that they are very chunky. or i could just be wrong lol, in that case 2 new tyres will be ordered. *wink*

the wheels in the link are different wheels.

this is how ive done them, not how most people would but they are different. picture quality came out really bad but the red is alot nicer/ deeper/ and slightly darker in real life.

Rick - as this topic comes up from GOOGLE -"formula Jedi"

Rick, i know its only what youv' been told ,but anyone who tells you they are paying £350 for a 6x13" three piece wheel is either stupid, loaded or bullshitting,

the only chance youd get away with that kind of money is if they had magnesium centres which they clearly do not,

carl

RICK

I feel carl (fast carl racer) maybe mis informed of has been given the wrong information - I understand you bought these of the drivers team mate?

I understand he was told the present spec wheels are approximately £400 per wheel@4x101.6mm pcd - they are 8"J and 10"J
- yours would still probably be more than £300 per wheel at 6J" wheel inc vat from the factory. - THEY ARE still the same wheel, they just re-rim them. For some reason 8" wheels were more expensive than 10" at one point?

Yours are from the mk4 car and are still popular in hill climb /sprints and some people with Jedis not int the factory championship still run 6" front and 8" rear.

SO... those wheels are upgradeable and your centres are worth at least £100 each - and yes you will struggle to find two more for cheap money, as they cost so much and people do not sell them often.

That's why they were sold - it's cheaper to buy four custom made heavier race wheels than 2 new jedi wheels if you not obsessive about saving weight

Jedi wheels are purpose made!

(unlike image wheels which are off the shelf wheels with offsets to order)

Jedi do share the mini pcd - other Jedi wheels you have seen i.e.

mini lights and cxrs are usually special orders from compomotive - they keep the spec. (they take 5wks to make)
or if they are standard they must have loads of spacers behind them which is not good practice.

The problem is when creating wheels or any part specially for a small number of cars i.e. not for production road/race cars, the quantity that will sell, will reflect the cost.

The billet wheels you have are made to not require spacers to over come caliper clearances etc.. on the jedi - and it's rumoured they can save up to 2 sec's a lap on a high reving, low torque very light weight car. - (that's 400kg with driver and fuel)

- Jedi is aimed to provide High speed cost effective racing.

(compabable in performance to recent international formula 3 cars that did cost £400,000 per season to run in there day, cars that now run in club f3 )

So...It is motorsport and specialist parts do cost more than off the shelf performance car parts. Certain components share characteristics with mini parts but they are all altered /modified and uprated (different alloys etc..) for specific tasks which would not make them suitable for road use or higher milage - the hubs are made specifically for the jedi, but are still 101.6mm.

The wheels look nice - I'd like to see the car some time always had a soft spot for minis especially those z cars.

Good luck at the drag strip!

I see fast carls website states they manufacture bespoke parts or he is involved with them? - seems strange he would view 300 - 400 for a wheel to fit a specific race car as expensive - the price is not aimed at road use cars?

F3 is generally ten times more expensive then Jedi
(that's expensive some might say a real rip off)

oh and generally speaking Jedi racers are loaded - compared to the normal working man- and do talk shit too!

With out checking even if the wheels are less or more than £300 @6"J they are cheap - the slicks are AVON champion ship control tyre

Current spec sizes - £680 ish - a set of 4 available at any championship race event. The wets are the same!

CONTROL - means mandatory
"hence why motorsport is possible more expensive than it needs to be"

Try looking at Mono posto for wheels or hill climb events

fast carl and force racing do make some lovely peices for minis, to a great quality, which hopefully some day some of it will end up on my mini.

If Jedi race cars are getting away with charging there customers £400 for an 8" wide wheel i'd like to meet said customers,
i'd like to know if jedi actually make these wheels them selves or if they have another wheel manufacturer make them and they simply sell them on at a considerable mark up,

i say it again ,if anyone is paying £400 for such a wheel they are paying too much,
ASk me how i know that they are paying too much.?
