Firstly, do you actually know it's a cat? Cats normally cover over anything they lay down and would be equally unusual for it to crap in the middle of an open area.

Secondly those suggesting physical harm are those that cost the owners thousands in vet bills. It is also a criminal offence. The best method of deterance is water. A hose or a water pistol but you have to see it first to be able to use the water.

Getting a cat yourself is not the ultimate fix either as there is always some ignorant fucker that doesnt have their male cats bollocks removed which causes them to come to your garden specifically to mark its ground. That also causes thousands in vet bills from the fights that break out.

Now im not saying that is not a cat just that it is not what cats normally do. It could be a fox though.

Until I got the dog my neighbours cat used to come and blatently take a dump on the grass and just leave it.

I'm with Alex/Colin, doesn't sound like cat behaviour - have you actually seen it in the act or just seen a cat in your garden ?

Fox most likely, unless you're really rural in which case it could be a muntjac (regular in my garden).

And as Colin says, it's illegal to harm a cat (and most wildlife too) and people do get prosecuted for it, especially if they talk about it on internet forums.....

Cats will only cover up with loose stuff that is already in the area, they dont dig so wont cover up if there is nothing to cover with. I was a cat owner for 20 odd years

I seriously doubt it!

I have two cats, the water thing doesnt work on all cats, mine love water *smiley*. The lion pellets work best of all, plus the cats dont get hurt. Some prick shot my parents cat with an air gun, did alot of damage, he got a paintball in retaliation.

Not true for a well looked after cat.

Granted the one in this case - if indeed it is a cat which I doubt - may not be well looked after.

Doubtful about the fox, I know there are urban foxes and I have seen one about a mile down the road, but I've not seen one any where near my house, plus it would be a bind for the fox to get I have 2 gardens either side and there's a really long garage the width of the garden so the fox would either have to scale over the garage or come through 2 gardens to get in going over 6 foot fences, Ive seen fox shit before and it doesnt look like this. I havent seen the cat in the act but I've caught it at my back door before, the other is the ginger one which never comes in due to the black and white one from next door. The turd is always in the same place. I have some shotgun alarms but there a touch overkill, there really really loud and if it goes off in the middle of the night ill have some annoyed neighbors. Ive seen some alarms that snap when tripped scaring the animal off. I've also heard amonia annoys cats so this might be an option.

My tom cat has no bollocks, but he still sprays and fights. Always two cats in a fight though.

leeds/wakefield.

If it is a cat it may have established a right of way over your garden over the precdeeding years and you have been to in love to notice its presence, i would have a good old man to man with him or her and ask for any proof they have regarding using you garden for the required period to estsablish said right of way,

if they cannot show proof, which i would not be surprised at because they cannot read and write , if the clever little fucker did produce some documented evidence to back up their claim any court in the land would throw it out as it would clearly be seen as a forgery as previously stated they cannot write , if it was a printed document i would again challenge them as there is no way they can hit the keys on a keyboard with those big padded paws,

i think this cat in your garden is a lying twat and should be viewed with suspicion from the outset,

whatever he says is going to be a fucking lie if he is too lazy to walk to the bog for a shit, he's a wrong un thats for sure,

he'll be off the Kendray estate. you know what they are like up there,

BAC of the first order if you ask me or should that be CAC.lol

Then it is not a cat. Then it's an ill cat, probibly cos some other fucker poisoned it trying to get rid of it from their garden

Hedging my bets that it's a Fox.

I have had cats as pets every living day of my life, and I have never seen a cat poop in the middle of the lawn. Foxes on the other hand, like dogs, don't care where they do it, and don't try to cover it up. Fox poop can easily be mistaken as cat poop, but cat poop is usually solid stringy sausage shaped, unless it is not well.

It was a bit of a Mexican stand off at first but they stopped coming in when we got chickens

I should add that there a some sick people here. Advocating physically hurting or killing an animal for doing what comes naturally instead of following our arbitrary human convention of respecting own lawn certainly shows the type of person you are (hint: you're an asshole).

Having said that I can understand wanting to have that stop. So if it's a cat, you should try to find out who the cat owners are and punish them by sending them a nice package with the shit inside. That may help them find a way to prevent this from happening.

And the automated sprinkler system looks like a humane way of dealing with this.

This is not a nice way to Die, I have seen this first hand! when I was in Afghan we had FOB cats to keep the rats and mice away and some dick head killed two of them like this. we only found out after he had moved on what had been going on. As he was leaving has food out so Mr Jingles was hanging about which was making the cats hunt about his shit tip of a bed space, and he did not like cats!

My front garden is a bit of a stomping/ meeting ground for bloody loads of cats as it has some nice big laurels which they like to hide in/ hunt from and it provides them some security.

They do take a dump in the open quite often and I was told that cats leave it in the open as a way of marking territory, particularly when there are battles going on about who rules that area. Every time I shifted it we got more! We had to sort it as our kids play out on the lawns very often. I tried one of those ultrasonic repellers which did work but they just kept finding different routes around it. In the end the best solution was the lion crap pellets. Worked great and is a perfectly humane way of sorting out the problem. The little cats just think a fooking big cat has moved in so keep clear.
