Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

if your using a SC gear set just use helical drops fitted with new idler gear bearings,

its been well proven by many they live and are inherently quiet,

If someone wants to quieten down the drops, settin up an oil spray onto the gear flanks about 30-50mm before the mesh will quiet it down noticably. Don't direct the spray into the mesh however.

I have fitted the latest MED roller drops (0.95 ratio not 1:1 though) and am plesently supprised about the noise.
I was expecting it to be really noisy but it isn't. In fact it greatly enhances the enjoyment of driving the car
I only use it at weekends on back roads so maybe not ideal as everyday transport.

I forgot that Ive diverted the oil releif vailve out of the end on the block rather than straight down, so my drops should be getting more oil.

I have the med rollers bearing drops and have been good for several years. I did change the roller bearing last year as a precaution. As for noise I can't really comment as my car is noisy anyway!

I've got a minispares sccr ST gear set in mine with helical drops and its great, just a bit of a whine in 1st 2nd and 3rd then absolutely silent in top gear........best of both worlds.

So I have been searching and so far I have found that the minispares 22 tooth primary Is loud so that gives me the choice of-

From the MS Evolution gears:
24 tooth primary - 30 tooth idler - 24 tooth input = 1.0-1
23 tooth primary - 30 tooth idler - 23 tooth input = 1.0-1
24 tooth primary - 30 tooth idler - 25 tooth input = 1.0416-1
23 tooth primary - 30 tooth idler - 24 tooth input = 1.0434-1
23 tooth primary - 30 tooth idler - 25 tooth input = 1.0869-1
24 tooth primary - 30 tooth idler - 23 tooth input = 0.958-1

Now they say that the 23 tooth primary gear is the strongest.

so my next bone Question is what is the ups and downs to the different set ups any.

I am on 10" wheels with a 3.1 CWP.

vid of my mini at mitp a few year ago, minispares ( non rollerbearing idle) 23+30+23
2 inch straight pipe exhaust too

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLIo4ctYkl0

i was also told the 23 tooth gear is supposed to be the strongest ( and also so i could easily slap a 24tooth primary if i needed too tweek the fd)

my mini on the road with a single 2.5 inch silencer the noise from the gears above 4k was enough to completely drowned out the engine and exhaust
s/c whine is soooo nice *happy*

Not managed to find the thread but a basic setup would be an adjustable oil pressure regulator with the adjuster replaced with some air equip hose appropriately located for the desired end result. Inspired thinking *Clapping* dear I say genius :)

I cant find pics of mine, but essentially I just bunged the drain hole that goes downwards from the oil relief valve and redrilled it from the side, its literally a peice of piss to do, if you wanted you could put a 90 degree fitting (non restrictive!!) just to roughly point it toward the gears, but I didnt.
