me dads got the Elan S2 i drive it all the time it s SHIT !!!! they are Vauxhall astra running gear, the engine is made by Isuzu ! the indicators are off a metro, the rear disc brakes are made by pontiac, and dont work, the hood leaks, the car sets fire to itself as there is soo much ambient heat under the bonnet and very little space, it costs an arm and a leg to get components from lotus (although you pay pennies if you dont have the lotus badge on the parts ie ASTRA) the turbo suffers incredible lag (worse than the mitsubishi evo) you crash in them you DIE as they are fibreglass. not to shatter ya dreams but they R SHIT motors, you would be bitterly dissapointed As Tiff was !! couldnt believe the dipshit put nos in even though he knew the gearbox was on its last legs and what did he expect would happen to the clutch ! not to mention he had pretty much detonated the pistons on a previous attempt..........................whine over STAY AWAY FROM LOTUS YOU ARE WARNED !!! lol *wink*

My mates got and esprite turbo s3 and thats been nothing but trouble, it's like a kit car vauxhall loom and switches celica back lights, with the toyota badges still on them, and he's lost all brakes this week.

Bag of shite. A good friend of mine bought an Esprit GT2 (I think it was?) to pose in.

He was gutted as I chased him from a 30mph rolling start and up to approx 130 he only managed to pull 1 cars length on me. His passenger kept looking over his shoulder to see where I was, my passenger was fucking crying with laughter......

Near Lincoln

And i thought you meant in the tractor tom *happy*

Just curious, how do you rate the xsara compared to the 205 for power etc (just thinking of the 306 *wink* )

The Xsara and 205 both make similar peak power as they have both been on the rollers, the 205 made 171bhp at 6950rpm (from memory).
The Xsara made 170bhp at 6100rpm.
The Xsara engine (XU10J4RS) notably makes about 20% more torque than the 205 engine (XU9J4), peak torque is at 5500rpm on the Xsara, can't remember on 205. (Can't find the 205 rolling road print out). Driving wise the XU10 pulls loads better from low down, but I find it starts to get a bit strangled and breathless above 6500rpm. The 205 however does not pull so well until 4000rpm, but on the other hand, charges all the way to the limiter at 7250rpm quite happily.
Driving wise, the 205 (870kg last time we weighed it, it has been on a diet since then, I'd guess 850kg now) will piss all over the Xsara (1230kg, fat bastard like its owner), mainly as it has the same power, and a 350-odd kg weight advantage. Obviously your Rallye (1200kg) would be closer as its a bit lighter.
Having said that, the Xsara will keep up with the likes of Civic Type-R's and Clio 172's up to about 120mph if you drive it with some spirit and reckless abandon, the 205 however will outdrag them, although starts to suffer from aerodynamics (or lack of) higher up. I have a feeling that the 306 6th gear is an overdrive top, with 5th gear the same direct drive as the Xsara 5th gear, so I don't think you gain anything through the gears from having the extra cog.
Of course the infamous tractor will see them all off........mainly because if it starts in front no-one can see what the hell is going on due to the instant smoke screen created!!

on the first show i went to in my mini i was running late i was booked in on the british mini club stand at silverstone mitp 04, i wasnt going to miss it for the world so me and my 16stone mate went for it, just as we were approching silverstone on the dual carrage way in my little 998cc we were going past about 3 minis a second flashing them out the way of the fast lane thats when big dave noticed the speedo n started laughing we were just touching a ton, with two big lads in and a boot full of ice felt like a real hero until i got to the show n the group of minis i went camakazing past was queing up behind me at the gates, where a massive meet head got out of his yellow clubman i tought he was coming 2 congratulate me on my lighting speed n tell me that he used to drive like that when he was a lad. i was wrong he was quite pissed of as when i went speeding past him a stone flow up n chiped his windscreen. shame he was twice as big as me doh

the 306 GTI6 does not have a overdrive 6th. the gearbox was designed for motorsport and has a long first gear ( just over 40mph ) and all gears are silly close. 6th gear at 6500rpm is 140mph so not an overdrive.

ive got the rallye which has the same engine and box and it will kill the xsara through the gears.

just thought i put in my 2pence worth!

Yes, as I clearly said, the Rallye would be closer to the 205 than my Xsara is, as it is lighter. Therefore, the Rallye is faster than the Xsara.

However, the 205 will kill 306 Rallye's.

Iain has just bought a Rallye, I have both the Xsara and a 205, he was enquiring the difference, hence my explanation.

I wondered if they did a hot zsara. There was one in basingstoke with a noisy exhaust that chased me, I assumed it was a little 1.4, was pretty suprised when he didn't fade to a dot in my mirror.
