I did not read explanations, just looked at pictures. Why the fuel filter OUT goes to the T ? Is is the right direction of the flow ?

If you look at this pic it's more clear. The fuel comes out the tank and into the filter, then into the T and get's sucked into the pump. When the fuel returns it heads straight for the pump again, rather than going through a 90 degree bend.

As we've done such a good job of ruining the engine, I thought I'd have a go at ruining the ride as well.

I've stuck on a couple of these

So that we can fit these

Put some poly bushes up here

The current displacers are all pretty knackered. It's taking 450psi to keep the ride height, where 300 psi should be enough and one is leaking a little bit. So while we're at it, we're going to fit a set of good used ones. And while we're at that, we thought we may as well lower it a bit. I've taken 6mm of the rear trumpets and 10mm of the fronts. Should drop it about 30mm.

Yep, they're the std thrusts that Mr Austin drilled. I've just drilled a set of +0.005's as the crank thrust face matched the old thrusts....

Next job is to turn 2 broken gear boxes into one working one. We have 2 weeks to get it back drivable. Better take our fingers out...

what is the reason behind the thrusts being drilled and screwed?

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

The screws stop them moving around and the hole in the middle goes through to the oil gallery, leaving you with a nice film of oil between the thrusts and the crank face. Doesn't guarantee to stop the clutch killing the thrusts again, but it will certainly extend the life of them. Carl uses them in the Don, so if it's good enough for that car...

is there a need to do both, or would just the cap ones do the job?

You need to keep the block one in place as it's that one that has the hole through to the gallery. It's Carl's design and I'm happy to follow it *smiley*

Indeed, indeed, makes sense. i was just pondering, far from being critical.

You are going to be busy for the next 2 weeks alright. I wish i had more time to work on mine, but very glad to have work getting in the way.

Best of luck

I've got plenty of beer in. Wifey is going to the races on Saturday and won't be back until Sunday if you fancy a beer or two and a takeaway or something. That goes for young Michael too.

The 'new' gear box is now sorted - 4 pin diff fitted with the 3.1:1 CWP, straight cut input gear and these removed from the selector mechanism.

Then we've cracked on and built up the engine.

Thanks to Mr Oneeyedlizzard the timing is set to 108 degrees.

All end floats are checked, so depending on how much beer we drink tonight we should have a complete engine tomorrow *smiley*
