I ran my finger across the old block this morning. You can feel the dip between 2 & 3.

I had this problem with my old engine, I vaugely remember someone saything this was a problem on some MG Metro 1275s although that could be rubbish.

I've remade the top engine steady bracket in 2mm steel, hopefully it will be strong enough.

I've drilled and tapped the flat spot on the inlet manifold so that we can put the one way valve back into the original point.

That will be getting the return from the oil catch tank, which is going here:

The engine is just about ready to go back in at the weekend. We ended up swapping the flywheel as the old one had bent and was catching the transfer casing.

Dropped it in, plumbed everything up, filled all the fluids, got the float bowl full and then it cracked straight into life.
Bleed the clutch and of we went. Runs really well. *Clapping*

Not certain that the rad is up to the job though *frown* didn't overheat but was getting reasonably warm in this weather. Was thinking of ducting it to force air through it, and maybe a light dusting with some matt black paint. After that its a custom rad or an additional one somewhere?

We spent some time sorting all the niggly little job's out last night - first oil change, dodgy speedo cable, small oil leak etc etc.

When we ran it on Saturday in temps around 30 degrees it was constantly running hot. So we've made a ghetto air damn to force all the air through the radiator.

It stayed nice and cool when we tested it last night, but then it was only around 10 degrees outside. The big test will be when the sun comes out again next year. While we where there we made a cold air feed for the air filter.

It just needs a slight misfire when changing gear at high rev's sorting out and the lowered hydro cans and dampers fitting.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Just how many different coloured panels do you have in this build ????

I've been using wood and duct tape to mock all my bits up which is apparently commonly known as WAD.

Schrödinger's cat - so which one am I ???

Panels - Yellow, Red, Green, Black and Silver. Road wheels 3 Silver & one white. The track tyres are all silver unfortunately...

As for the 'CAD' you know how it goes, I'll bet it's still there next time the engine comes out *Yes*

I think it's just about time to concentrate on our respective mini's.

The worst condition is not running on hot days, it's after you have run full throttle for some time, oil is at 100C and then you stop (idle). At that moment you'll know if the cooling is enough.
PS: there are two different things:
- cooling capacity in the revs
- cooling capacity in idle
Quite often either both are oversized, or the idle one is too low because it's more complicated to design (water pump flow dose not match the rads flow/capacity)

That sounds like the situation on Sat, the oil was quite warm after some spirited driving. Time will tell if it's upto the job or not.

Upto 12psi today, feeling fairly rapid another 3psi or so to go *wink*

Better get that blower changed before Avon though.

Well just over 15psi now but the bastard is leaning out again when changing up from 2nd to 3rd. If I can't sort it will have to turn it back down for Avon.

Gone from feeling rapid to downright silly!
