What did they do to the discs btw???

They got way too hot, shook as they warped under very hard braking, approx 125mph to 80 on a 850ish KG car.

On inspection they where covered in hair line heat cracks and i deamed them unfit for re-use.

Another EBC factoid.

I used a set of "red" once at Combe, they lasted longer than the "green"

After Combe the car laid up for a few weeks, then it went out for a spank.

I trusted the brakes but on this occasion i had a great pedal feel but was not stopping power, after over shooting a certain piece of tarmac with some impotant lines on it i carefully drove back to the garage.

On inspection i found the EBC Reds pad had turned to a crumbly dryness. It hardly generated any friction.

I love to say great things about EBC as it is a local company in Northampton, i even know people who work there.

Maybe their key to success is giving a free sticker away with every set of pads?

Carbon metallics for the s discs really do give awsome stopping power, when i had them in and they were heated up after a few applications it felt like i had a servo. Still reasonable from cold but just unbeatable when hot. But at the sacrifice of your wheels, still have a video of a rolling road where sparks are flying off from the pads onto the wheels while braking to slow down the rollers. If this does'nt concern you the carbon metallics are brilliant.

Was this when you took Petter out for a spin and almost stuffed the Mini into the neighbour's house? :)

Note the heavilly cratered surface. Not ideal. Not in any book.

*frown*

And now for an update - i've got Unipart pads on the mini, and having bedded them in nicely, they are pretty damn good. They are VERY progressive which i like - and seem to be pretty good at high speeds.
Note i say pretty good - but not perfect.... I remember locking my mini up at around 70mph on the M63 (before it was the M60) a good few years ago with my original greenstuff pads. I just tried at the same speed and couldn't quite get them to lock - but the retardation was pretty good mind...

I'll be ordering some mintex before the driving season is over to test those for comparison.

My mate has had similar looking results from a set of yellow stuff in his saxo hot hatch racer. Not at all impressed with them and the free stickers were binned before i gave him chance to put them on the car!

Dave, I have never felt that the "lock" test is a good one personally, as a brutal hard stomp on the brakes can usually lock the wheels up in most cars at most speeds, whereas a gentle yet progressive application can give excellent deceleration without getting near a lock up point.....

I would be interested to see what temperature range your brakes operate in. I read that the discs are 7.5 but are they 7.5 S or turned down 8.4s with 4 pot non vented calipers.

Looking at the picture you can clearly see that the linings have melted so the heat range is outside that of the pad. I remember going out in Mark Chandler's mini before it was a Miglia around Goodwood and losing the brakes after a lap or two. I know the current Miglias use non vented discs or have down but with carbon metallic pads might be okay.

My discs are 8.2 o/d and vented and am my second set in six years so this could well be the difference for me and others that say they are okay. Whilst the stop with the integra won't be the problem the pads must already have been dead?

I've been excavating!

have ebc's improved since this thread?*surprised* If not I may be binning a set of pads that have covered about 400 miles before i really need to stop hard.

I'm on standard 8.4's but with yoko a048's.

Mintex M1144 are excellent. However when needing pads for the Clio I frequented a few hot hatch forums (shudder) and they said nothing but good things about greenstuff pads. I have them in the Clio and all is well so far...

Greens arent exactly a fast pad anyway. They are just a mild upgrade over standard road pads.

Although one good thing...they dont dirty your wheels too badly *happy*

The last pads I used in my car ( long time ago ) were some fancy cerametallic ones offered by Minispares. No idea what they were called though. I probably replaced them about 10 years ago.
But I do recall them being better than the then Mintex M171, before they went Asbestos free.

Although I never had any issues with those...very good pads too. Always capable of stopping from very high speeds with the 8.4" vented/4pots

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Just doing some excavating.

I generally agreed with this thread that the Green Stuff were utter shite, and still do.

However, I wanted some new pads for my Legacy Spec. B. The brakes were only average, so I thought I'd try some 'uprated pads'. I wanted anything other than EBC, but it turns out that only EBC were available for my car. Painfully, I bought Red Stuff for front and rear.

Imagine my surprise, they are very good so far. Require noticably less pedal pressure to stop (even from cold). I've not got them to fade yet, but then the car is mainly used with the wife and kids in!

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

I'm looking for new pads for the miglia for KAD vented 4 pots.

Does anyone know if they are a standard pad? as KAD seem a bit pricy for 1144's or the like, i.e. £100ish a set!

Its purely for hillclimbing so not wanting anything too hard as i'm guessing its hard to get heat into them quickly?

Wil, what do you use on the TT?

I either have the standard Halfords pad ,or the Forodo pad Halfords supply.

Thsy seem to work fine.
