I came across this on one of the MG groups. I've not heard of tapping the oil galleries & fitting grub screw before, so I was wandering if anyone has tried it. Personally I can't any benefit on a road car, but whilst I'm machining my block I thought I'd see what people's views were.

If it's a road car or not, does that matter? So debris in the oil galleries is OK on a road car? I think not. What I was thinking as on a road car the engine is not stripped down as often as a race car, so you might as well stick with the standard plugs, rip them out when you rebuild the engine and press new ones it. Obviously you still need to clean out the oil ways when rebuilding the engine that's just common sense. On 18th of Nov, 2006 at 11:24pm British Open Classic said:
The other option is to tap the end of one of the galleries and use it for an oil feed to the turbo rather than the collection of tee-pieces which most people have on the front of their engines. I just had a look at one of my engines and noticed that all bar one one gallery plug are obscured by either the timing chain or the clutch housing so this idea is a no go. I can see no reason why that is a no go... You have a open end on the pressurised oil gallery, why not use that one? |
