Hi all,i`m new to turbo`s,
What i would like to know is,
when fitting the bulkhead box for the turbo, does it effect the position of the heater in the car?
And is an intercooler used instead of an Air filter?
And finally what sort of power out put is made by a standard MG turbo engine?

1. You will need to adjust the way that the heater is bolted in. Best bet is to stick the heater in the bin and save yourself some weight.

2. Intercoolers are not used instead of an airfilter. (Although, one ebay member seemed to disagree lol!) Have a look at some installs by searching for 'intercooler'.

3. I believe that in it's standard form the Metro turbo engine makes 93bhp. The ERA mini turbo made a little bit more. A well setup standard engine with an intercooler and a tad more boost can easily see over the 100bhp mark though.

Big welcome mate.

yep, the heater is only held in at a couple of points, actually 2 at the back and 2 at the front, just make some fresh mounts out of some bent bits oof tin and locate the heater unit a couple of inches furter forward to make room for the bulkhead box (boxes available from Milamber!)

the era and metro didn't have an itercooler, with a bit of cutting and some pipe its well worth adding one.

the metro ran 4 psi boost which was modulated to 7 psi at higher rpm.

as Benros said, "remember an intercooler is not the icing on the cake its ....... MORE CAKE!!!"

from experience bleeding to 7psi on a standard engine can damage pistons, fit an intercooler and run over 7psi in safety

dont wind the boost up without an intercooler!!!!

boost is another word for the pressure a turbo generates

Keeping it simple, more pressure/boost generated by the turbo (should) equal more air going into the engine, which means more oxygen, which can be used to burn more fuel, which will make more power.

Turbos compress the inlet charge, which can heat the air up, which makes it less dense, which is bad.

The cooler the inlet charge, the more dense air is, so again more oxygen which is good

(hence the use of an intercooler)

yes only to around 7psi of boost though as your pistons will break as they will have come from a N/A engine

do a lot of searching us the search button as all the questions have been answerd before....... it wont come to you on a plate!

I think you will benefit buddy by doing some reading up on the real basics about how a turbo works, and how it makes an engine produce more power etc.

Try some of the online encyclopaedia's (? -ae?) for a start, such as wikipedia. I think by doing this all the advice folks are trying to give you will make much more sense to you!
