From the pic, it looks like an early one as well. The area around the thermostat is machined flat. Can anyone confirm?

Don't recall ever seeing the 'flat top' 12G940 on any turbo motor?

12HC is also not listed as being a 'turbo' engine either??? On 17th Nov, 2014 Tom Fenton said:

How much is he asking for it? If the engine isn't a turbo I'd still be tempted to buy it, then rebuild it. Simply because all the bits are in one place and it saves the hassle of tracking them down individually.

I think that 12HC is an early NA Metro engine.

did any metro or A+'s feature a flat top head? I thought these were the older versions of the 940? "Turbo's make torque, and torque makes fun"

The Metro engine I bought had a flat top 12G940 with it and I wondered about that as well. It has triple groove valves which seem to be metro sized and the heater takeoff was plugged which makes me think that it was indeed for a metro. The rest of the engine was deffo a Metro but it had a CR of around 10:1 so keep that in mind...as it looks like someone has bolted a turbo on a standard engine. As has been said thats no problem as long as the price is right and you are prepared to rebuild it properly if it turns out to be the case. my engine number is 12H907AA website:- http://www.terryhunt.co.uk

I guess you could try to pursuade him to rip the head off to check the piston number. unlikey, but if you don't ask you don't get. On 7th Oct, 2010 5haneJ said:
