So I picked up my mini and found the turbo and manifold that i had upstairs in my garage. I'm hoping some of you guys out there can help with out with where its from. I am guessing that i will also have to install a box in the firewall before i can set it up. The engine is a 1360, with stage II head? Also i took the carb of the motor, the code on it says:

5 WK40 9
F2X1524

picture of the carb:

with i believe is an HIF44?

can i rebuild it for the turbo and run it on the car NA until all the turbo bits are sorted out?

heres some pictures of the turbo and manifold:

yes you can rebuild it and run it on the car with no turbo ,but the needle and spring wont be likely to be right for a nat asp engine ,so you may find it best to stick in the spring and needle from a nat asp engine for the moment .

I think that the carb pictured above is a HIF38.

What's involved with boost-proofing an SU? I'm wondering as turbo HIF's are rare around these parts... A few seals here and there? Are there any key differences between the NA and turbo version apart from that?

iv seen it work to blow through a normal hif carb , but you do get a little leakage from the spindle , it wasnt anything to worry about though , prob depends on how worn they are .

The turbo is definately Metro turbo, the carb looks like a standard non-turbo item.

Measure the diameter of the throat, if its 38mm then its a 38, I'll let you guess what it'll be if it's a 44!!

If you can get any 44 it can be rebuilt as a turbo carb by buying a turbo rebuild kit from Burlen (I'm sure they'll export)

You seem to be missing the oil feed pipe from the turbo not a problem as you will no doubt be fitting the braded hose upgrade ki. Also the the acctuator seems to be missing the pressure feed pipe that supplies the controling force for the waste gate.

There are two ways of spotting a turbo carb:-
1. by the under cut at the top of the dash pot by the damper cap for the clamp.

2. The screws that hold the dash pot on are of the anti tamper variety, they are not hex headed or flat bade screws.

Hunt around on Im sure there is a thread with plenty eye candy for refrence*wink*

whats the history of the turbo setup?

looks like theres a bit of corrosion inside the manifold which is usually covered in soot? might want to dismantle and give it the once over to check everything is free
