been reading as i am building my mini in a road going race car, mulitpoint weld in cage, tubbed arches, miglia bulkhead etc

this is going to be enough on insuramnce, but no i want to build a 998 turbo, i stripped down an engine at the weekend, machiniching my centre main strap and crank strap tomorrow at work (welder/fabricator/machiniest)

i have read wil h's guide on a turbo in 20hours (very imformative) but still at a cofussion point, this i has to be on a budget as everything has gone out of hand,

so i get the block checked,
chemically cleaned, v
very light skim for flatness ?

thinking a standard rebuilt gearbox with x pin dif
straight cut drops (all about the noise)
lieghtened flywheel
orange diaphram
organic clutch
centre oil pick up ?

r5 t2 turbo
mirage manifolds
mpi fuel tank ?? or easier way or doing this

but, can i use the standard flattop pistons with new rings, and use a 12g295 head or what is needed for a 12g240 head apart from pocketing

really new to this guys,

thanks for any advice in advance

That all sounds good, the MPI tank is a common route and is a neat solution, I've used a T-piece in the low pressure side of the pump, which is a bit cheaper I guess.

As for the head, if you are using flat top pistons you'll need 28cc head chambers just to get to 9:1CR (this will be safe for 10 or 12psi with an intercooler). 28 cc is easy in the 295 as it is the standard size, and there is scope for more, but the 940 has a standard volume of 21.4cc, so you can see that this will need lots of work to get to a decent size.

If using the 940 you really need dished pistons IMO.

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph
