Hi, I will be running a metro turbo engine, with an IC at about 10psi, is it essential to have a 4 pin diff? as I am on quite a tight budget?

Most people say yes, but I think with a bit of mechanical sympathy then you might be OK without one.

My gearbox, drops and diff are all standard, but are very low mileage. I run 12psi and have done about 2000 miles on the engine+gearbox, including some drag runs at Avon. Still seems to work.

If your rebuilding anyway, I would put one in for piece of mind. *wink*

Saying that I ran my engine at anything from 10 to 16psi for 3 years covered 10k and it was ok, but I was a chancing it TBH. Lol

Another thing to bear in mind, if the diff does start to disintergrate what else will it take with it?

My MG Metro (standard NA, not turbo) broke it's diff pin at ~70k miles. All normal driving.
The broken end of the pin went under the crownwheel, where the gap wasn't big enough for it, so it punched a hole in the casing.
RIP my only DAM5626 casing.
Initially, when I went to rebuild the gearbox in an older casing (ready for my Mini project), I bought a new replacement "competition" single pin, but once I decided I was going the turbo route, I put it to one side and bought the MiniSpares X-pin diff.
I just look at it as insurance...

i just had one die on my n/a running 77 bhp with normal driving so will definitely be using a minispares x-pin/ quiafe if i can afford in the turbo

Depends how soon you want to see the inside of your gearbox!

Having had a sumpful of Mobil 1 leak slowly away on the quayside at Dover docks the wrong side of customs I would advise fitting one!

in my N/A mini i snapped a bmc diff pin now im running a comp pin with two flats on each end n its doing just fine after 2000km of really hard driving
