My mum has tropical fish aquarium in her office's reception, theyve been away for just over a week and in there absence some building work down the road caused the main to blow putting the power out down the street

they fixed 2 cables (2 phases) so most of the street had power over the weekend, but left the third 'yellow' phase for nearly 6 days (were guessing off the date on the mains powered clock on the wall) before it was sorted

in the mean time all but 1 of the fish, (my mum's pride an joy, some almost 10 years old) have died as the heater hasnt been on.

anyone know where we stand? my mums gutted, and a rough guess to repopulate the tank will be over £800

the power loss caused next doors telly to blow too, and they dont want to know, shrugging all responcibility...saying it was the builders down the roads fault for the power loss.

whereas the builders down the road say the electricity board didnt mark the cables on the site out correctly so its their fault..

where do we go from here?

well the garage where we get out MOT's done is next to a building site at the moment and when digging earlier on in the year an electrical company contacted in by the building company ripped up his phone lines. because of this he couldnt do any MOT's for 3 days and just like in your case neither company wanted to know just palming blame onto the other.

So he took the Building company to court for loss of earnings. he took them because they were the ones that contacted the electrical company and so should have given them the information and as far as anybody off the site is concerned it is the main companies fault, this being the building company.

I would get onto a solicitors and tell them what happened. they will be able to give you good information on what to do next.

Dunno - only one way to find out! Can't really think of any other way of dealing with it.
